It may be a little anti-climatic for some, but you really get the feel for how lonely and isolating it must have been for those people living in those hills. Most of the feud sites just have little memorials marking the site and the people involved. We like history so we liked it a lot!

What a place! The original home site of Randal McCoy. The well is still there. An archeological dig is in progress. Owner Bob Scott, a Hatfield descendant, welcomes one and all. He shows artifacts found on the land, has ATV tour to the top of the mountain, and provides a historical narrative. Not far from restored cabin of Preacher Anse Hatfield. Can do whole Hatfield McCoy tour beginning here.

Hilton Garden Inn was the nicest hotel we have stayed in on our trip. The staff, Stephanie and Kim were the best! I would love to have employees like them. hey made our stay worth it. As far as the Hatfield and McCoy historical sites it was interesting to say the least.

What a rip off. Paid our money and tour bus didn't show up leaving 20 people sitting at the Hampton. Then paid for the CD and we drove to the sites, many of which are nothing more than a historical marker sign. Save yourself time and money and just buy the CD and listen to it at home. It is better than the sites themselves which are spread out over many miles.

We went to the Hampton Inn and got a 20 dollar cd made by the historical society for a driving tour. We did the pikeville in town stuff and headed out into WVa to do those sites. One could do more sites than we did. I like the replica of the house in WVa.

Lots of history to be enjoyed, and the town is quite lovely. There are good markers identifying points of interest. Be sure and ask about ghost legends.

I don't know what's wrong with the people that give it a 1 review because it's home of the most famous or infamous feuds in the world it's also home to my family all of my family the Thompsons and the halls . I think Pikeville Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places you could ever visit or live everyone in my family lives there except for the few of us I live in Florida and if I could have my choice I would go back to Parkville it's beautiful there anybody that doesn't take a chance in your life to go visit this place they are really missing out and just because when you go around the corner you don't see somebody thrashing from a noose trust me the history is there in is home to the best moonshine ever made and if you've never drank it stop in and have a seat if you won't regret it. Take a court home if given the chance you can make any type of mix drink you want or drink it straight out of the jug I can remember driving through bridges that just had a little house on top of the bridge a wooden bridge at that and driving me out with all the main shine you wanted what a thrill Pineville is awesome and home to the most sweetest kindest people I've ever met oh believe me there are some out there that you don't want to say they're still in the feud. But trust me Pikeville Kentucky is definitely one of the prettiest places I've ever been in my life and I'm proud to call it home and I plan on taking a trip anybody interested in going I'd like to get a few people together to go and split the cost of knowing we would have a blast I can remember laying up there on the mountain is called initial rock and rubbing better all over my body so I can get a suntan the rock come off the mountain that's the reason I can't touch better today it made me seeing the harder it got the more it also cooked and I'll never ever forget the smell of hot cooking vegetable oil in my life I would have much rather put the moonshine on my body but if you get the chance go to Pikeville Kentucky is the famous feud between the Hatfields and McCoys you won't be disappointed that's where I call my home and it will always be home it was absolutely beautiful the last time that my mom and dad went mommy passed away dancing in the church I'll never forget how daddy brought her home in a box because she was cremated it was terrible and she was my best friend since then 4 years later I lost my son at the age of 37 so I think I'm going to go back to my roots and enjoy myself and become just a little bit closer to God with Mama and Jason watching over me beautiful and I'm going to share some of that beauty I will have to send some pictures people that can go never know you worth the money to go there so everyone get your money together and go to Pikeville Kentucky who knows you might just see one of the ghosts of the Hatfields and McCoys behind one of those trees they were hung from god bless everyone and teach at all Sharon Thompson

So, I participated in the running of the Hatfield and McCoy Marathon, which started at Belfry, KY and wound through the mountains and across the Tug River to WV, and back over 26.2 miles to finish in Williamson, WV. I just wanted to note that this area was a kind, fun, and beautiful destination for a race! Many businesses opened their doors and more than just the local inns and hotels made space for runners to stay the weekend. The people were wonderful hosts, and patient as we took up half the road. The historic sites are nice to see, and I heard from other travelers that the guided tour was great and informative. The downside is that there really isn't much in the area to take up a lot of time. So this place makes for a good day stop-over, if you're looking for a way to break up a long journey. I suggest, to get the most out of the area, that people look into heading down during the race weekend or the Hatfield and McCoy Family Reunion weekend... both in June.

The brochure from the visitor center was fabulous, laying out all the famous spots to visit in and around Pikeville; the brochure describes in detail all the murders, hangings, and places to see that were part of that history .........the problem is that when following the feud trail laid out by the brochure, all one finds are signs telling you what happened on that site. There is NOTHING there to see. No old buildings, homes, or structures of any type ..... just signs. Save your gas and time.

For a 20 dollar fee per person you can get your tickets at the Pikeville,Ky. visitors center. They will take you around to some of the feudin' spots and answer what questions you might have about this famous feud. They say it's a two hour tour but for some reason we only were out for a little over an hour. I think they can improve this tour going forward but it was educational and interesting. The people at the visitors center and people in Pikeville are very nice and accommodating. There are other things to do here but definitely include this tour.
