Darajani is stone town biggest market for locals that most of them coming here for buying their needs in all fields. here is really alive and crowd and you will see funny things.

This is certainly an interesting market and you can literally get anything here, from food to watches and clothes. BUT...it can be a sensory overload, It is chaotic, dirty, the fish and meat markets are very smelly and you should be aware that while it is a different cultural experience, if you are queasy and the sight of buckets of smelly fish, hanging meat and garbage bothers you, you may want to avoid it,

Bought some whole spices here. You can find fish, fruits and meat (what about a cow skull?) Worth a visit even though you're not planning to buy anything.

Went here with a taxi driver as our guide. An absolute must see! You won't see many tourists (we were the only ones at that time). Women beware of wearing something appropriate here, as Zanzibar and stonetown is Muslim oriented. I wore a long pants and a scarf around my tank top!) so people don't get offended. Walking around gives you a really good impression of how daily business is going here. We saw a fish auction, the meat department (both not hygienic at all!), fruits, veggies, spices and so much more. Also the chicken part of the market is nice to see, but again not for the faint hearted! We were really glad we went to this bazaar, an absolute experience!

I'm from the Philippines so when I say a place is chaotic, I know what I'm talking about. We went here to try to buy souvenirs. We knew we were going to a marketplace so we expected to see a lot of people. When we arrived, what awaited us was so chaotic that we left in a hurry without even looking at the wares. If this is your thing, then by all means - go. I mean I was glad I saw it but I wouldn't go back.

This is a great market and a great experience. It's very loud and hectic with very alien smells, sights and sounds. There are many shops selling the same thing so haggle and shop around for the best price.Don't feel intimidated. If you are a woman you tend to get a lot of looks but as long as you are dressed "respectfully" you will have no issues whatsoever. I felt quite safe, everyone was very friendly. This place has to be experienced. So if you are in Stone Town, head for Creek Road and see Darajani Market for yourself.

This is how a real market should look like. They have everything here. Fish, meat, spices, vegetables, fruit and souvenirs. You can haggle down the prices and the more you buy, the better price you get. I experienced that the spice sellers is most pushy for you to come over. The fish and meat sellers doesn't seems to care and treat you as any customer (or maybe they know that you're not going to buy a nice steak anyway).

Get ready to barter for everything! Vendors usually ask at least 4x’s what they are willing to eventually sell for... this just adds to the fun of the Bazaar. We stayed in Zanzibar for 2 weeks and went to the market about every other day – loved it! So many items for sale – you can find just about everything you are looking for and more. We purchased all of our groceries from here, and also many spices to bring home. Fruit and veggies were always fresh daily. It is great to experience at least once if you are in Zanzibar!

Maybe not nice and clean, but very interesting place to see how people of Zanzibar live, trade, for european people something really different. If you want to see some real african live then it is good point to visit.

Lovely to mix with the locals and to buy Spices in bigger bags than in Tourist places - for the same Money 6-10 time quantity, hehe

Darajani Bazaar is just around the corner from the main food markets, and features Kanga Street (where local ladies come to pick up the colorful kangas they wear at or near the home) and a wide variety of other goods for the home. Prices here are better than on the tourist streets but of course if you look like a tourist the price still shoots through the roof so get ready to bargain hard. It's a nice walk, and you can pick up some basics for your trip here. Always nice to wander the narrow alleyways of the market areas.

A me piace moltissimo passeggiare comprare e contrattare.
