We loved the french toast and the witty menu. Definitely try this place if you are looking for a smaller, home-town feel for a breakfast spot. Delicious!

The restaurant front window sill was covered with dead bugs and a daddy long legs crawling around. Hash Brown's were boiled red potatoes with their skins and then smashed and rewarmed on the grill (no onions)! Ordered coffee and was never offered a refill. The waitress forgot my English muffins and then was more interested in writing bills than keeping a customer happy. Will never go back ! Was there August 2014

My experiences have been much more positive than SazzyCat's recent post. We've been to breakfast several times. I actually prefer the Saturday breakfast menu over the Sunday version (more offerings). We've also gone up for dinner once, and had a great meal. Only downside? It's a little out of the way for most folks. Positives: very friendly service. I've only had slow service on mornings when the kitchen was absolutely swamped with orders, so that was to be expected. Excellent pancakes. And no complaints about the coffee. And it also appears to be a very family-friendly place; oftentimes families come with young children and the kids seem to enjoy the food just as much as the adults.

it's after midnight and i am still thinking of the breakfast i had at elmer's this morning. it was THE BEST breakfast i have had in ages. we live about 45 minutes from ashfield and were meeting someone there because it was a half-way point. i thought it would be nice to get there early and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before our meeting. we had super fresh eggs, really tasty toast and, and extra crispy bacon - just the way we like it and always order it. but, rarely does it come out perfectly crispy-almost-crumbly-but-still-melt-in-your-mouthy. well, the bacon was spot-on just like everything else. i ordered a biscuit as a side (because i am 9 month pregnant and can justify eating those extra carbs and calories) and it was worth the drive just for that morsel of buttery toasted goodness. my husband got a pancake on the side of his breakfast (he's eating for the 3 of us after all) and it was second only to my sister-inlaw, kate's sublime recipe. it was a darn good 'cake. best i have had in a restaurant for sure. .. oh, and the potatoes were amazing in every sense - crispy and seasoned just right.the service was friendly and fast. and we stayed for nearly two hours at our table for our post-feat meeting. no one rushed us or seemed to mind in the least that we were camped out there. (it was a thursday morning and not busy) we both loved the laid back atmosphere and reading the clever descriptions on the menu just made us laugh out loud and appreciate the whimsical and passionate spirit of the place.free wi-fi, too.and if i had any room, i certainly would have tried the wonderful looking baked goods on display. the handmade pottery, glassware, and goodies for sale there were also very tempting and of high quality.i fell in love with elmer's today and will go back often!

I had heard great things about this store/restaurant. Their breakfast was purported to be the best, so of course I was looking forward to driving out from Greenfield and treating myself to breakfast. My wife and I arrived 45 minutes after they had opened. We were able to be seated right away. The waitress poured us coffee, however she could only fill half my cup before running out. Needless to say, my half cup coffee was bitter and taste like the bottom of the pot. She never came back to fill the rest of the cup. Soon I discovered I could have ordered an espresso drink, which I prefer. So I ordered a latte. It was okay, but their coffee lacked “body” and the steam milk was “thin”. It took the waitress 15 minutes to bring my drink to me.I ordered hash with poached eggs and my wife got eggs Benedict. We waited 45 minutes for our meal, and when it finally got to us both our eggs were very over cooked. Hard yokes and whites. The hash was canned with some additional potatoes added and the ham on my wife’s Benedict had a sour taste. Her pancakes were light and fluffy and I would recommend them. The wait time for our food was frustrating because they didn’t appear to be that busy.I would probably be willing to give the establishment another try except where I was sitting I could see into the kitchen and didn’t like what I saw. Open loaves of bread directly over the dishwashing area. The person washing dishes would occasionally pop bread in toaster for what I had to assume was an order. There were other food items, butter I believe, balanced on the sink. All the while, one of the members of the wait staff stood and talked to the dishwasher for the entire time we were there. As for the store, the specialty items were over priced and available in other grocery stores in the area. Nothing unique at all.It just wasn’t a very pleasant experience and I was happy to finally get the check (which I had to ask for after a considerable wait) and be on our way back to Greenfield.Unless you are already in Ashfield, I wouldn’t go out of my way again to go to Elmer’s.
