We have been doing the "moose run" from Grant's Camps for about 15 years. Started when our sons were young kids and we try to get there once a summer. Start with a full breakfast at Grant's and then a ride in beat up old pickup truck with kayaks or canoes to the upper Kennebago River above Little Kennebago Lake. Put in as about 10 miles south of Canadian border. We kayaked up river for about 1/2 mile this time as the water levels in river were high. Spent several hours kayaking down through the rivers, marshes (Logan) and finally Kennebago Lake. Back to Grant's to leave the kayaks and pay our bill for kayaks and breakfast. If you are hungry, you can certainly have lunch there also. Reservations are needed the day before in order to get through the gate to the private dirt road that one travels to Grant's.SUV is recommended for high clearance on road that is full of rocks and washboard roadbed.

Canoeing down Kennebago River and coming face to face with a moose was the highlight of our vacation! The folks at River's Edge Sports were very accommodating despite the rain. They had advised going out early if spotting a moose was on our agenda. They even supplied a bag so that I could keep my video camera dry. Yes...we got wet. But it was so worth it!

Maine's oldest diner. the original diner that was towed from mass to Maine during the time of Lindbergh 's flight. Food was very good as was service. Nice choices on menu and very friendly servers.

A very easy river to navigate, particularly for children/first timers. Visit Rivers Edge Sports in Oquossoc for rentals and a ride to the river. All the folks at Rivers Edge were helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
