We visited Colonial Pemaquid during the winter so no one else was around. I do not imagine there are to many visitors to this site but if you like American history and want to take a step back and imagine life during these times is a nice place to visit.

Great views of the ocean and a beautiful lighthouse. Be sure to visit the art gallery as well. The fisherman's museum is fun. Be sure to wait for the OK to go to the top of the lighthouse.

Great place to explore for an hour or two, admission is nominal, or go after 6 and get in free without building admittance. Great harbor views and a waterfront restaurant.

We attended the last evening Lantern tour of the site. It was a very enlightening introduction to the history of the site. The volunteers in costume brought a bit of that history to life. It was encouraging to see folks giving of their time and talent to maintain and respect our colonial history and heritage and the brave men and women behind it.

Most people rush in and charge to the top of the fort, take a few pictures and then off they go without the slightest idea of how important this fort was to our history.on the second floor of the fort read the data in each of the glassed boxes as well as the wall panels. Then stop by the museum and see the artifacts. $1 for seniors. This is a delightful fort to explore as well as to enjoy the view of the cove and beach. Kids live it because the stairs as easy to climb and the top is flat and relatively safe. Hint: try to discover the reason for the heart at the entrance door.

The fort has a nice view, great steps leading to the upstairs, interesting exhibit, and -- glory! -- cellphone service.

This is wonderful little fort. The interpreters who work during the summer are knowledgeable and helpful. They've added more things to explore in recent years like a tiny village cottage. A great spot to see the cove, too!

Like the character of New England the lighthouse and space is rather understated. No fanfare or highly organized tourist info. But walk down onto the massive rocks , sit on a rocky bench and watch the waves crash on huge granite boulders. It's mesmerizing. Better yet take a picnic and sit watching the lobster boats working and beautiful sailboats on the horizon. Gulls may eye your food and work their way closer for a crumb. You can also sit at picnic tables but the rocks are the draw. If the ocean is churning it's an incredible connection to the power of the sea. Decent art gallery to peruse and massive tangles of rugosa roses but the best is the shore off to the right of the picnic tables. Rarely visited, it holds"fairy fortresses" created by artsey people of arranged rocks and delicately balanced cairns.

Not much here but a picturesque view, if you are in the area I would definitely stop by, the cemetery is beautiful.

I had a little time after my trip to Monhegan Island so I stopped by as I can't resist a lighthouse! Small gate fee - no big deal - even though I wasn't staying more than an hour. Walked on the spectacular rocks (what a cool formation - looks like wood!), climbed the lighthouse and walked around the grounds a bit. Didn't have time to view the museum in the keeper's quarters, maybe next time. It was a stunning late summer day - wish I could have stayed longer!

This location offers a classic New England landscape, but beware the blustery winds and rogue waves that bring a biting cold to the cheek! The sparkling white Light might be shorter than you remember the next time you visit, but it will be long on memorable views. Monhegan looms large and sulky in the distance and a teal Atlantic stretches for miles and miles in the dazzling morning.... well worth the visit!

The Lighthouse was great. The Museum which is owned by a local group was very well done. We sat and admired the coast for some time. There is a small fee to enter the area, but it is really a small fee. After climbing the lighthouse and viewing the lighthouse worker home, go sit on the rocks and be awed by the crashing waves.

I keep coming here again and again. I stay at a rental house down the road or at the Pemaquid Inn. Take time to sit on the rocks and ledges and watch the powerful waves smash and spray! Be careful not to get too close, and watch those children carefully. Picnic tables, bathrooms and gift shop/restaurant on site. Linger here.

Not growing up in Maine your first experience with lighthouses comes from picture books. This setting is the picture you’ve seen. I love coming back here every time we travel to Maine. The blue sky, dark ocean rocks, and white painted buildings are an artist’s love.
