Perfect for golfers seeking a moderate challenge and some great views. Wide open fairway, not a lot of trouble spots. Greens were in excellent condition and just an enjoyable outing for average golfers.

This golf course is situated in the ADK High Peaks Region. The views from the fairways make up for the not so perfect course condition. The greens were stressed by the long, cold winter. The layout is classic Craig Wood and the mountainous region ensures that most of your shots will be from a challenging position. I would definitely return to this course and look forward to doing so.

While this course is not the most beautiful in Lake Placid it is still a great course, especially for a public course. Also while a challenging course, it isn't so tough as to make it unpleasant. Add in the beautiful scenery and it is a great place to spend a day.

I love this course. Some don't as it is a country course, but it is a hitter's paradise with wide fairways. They have improved the clubhouse, although no matter who has served us in the restaurant over the 20 years we've been going has always been just a touch crabby. Love this course and it is obvious that you continue to do work on the course/clubhouse

Lush greens and fairways and somewhat challenging course...Grandfather golfed here 33 years ago...what a treat!

Played late August afternoon rounds when both days were hot & humid. Found this Adirondack mountain course better vs. say Laurentian or Eastern Township courses for a few of reasons 1) Course condition esp. the greens, which putted true & quick 2) Challenging but fair was generally able to find most wayward shots... 3) Whiteface Mountain as background was added bonus to very pleasant rounds of golf. Club Pro, Mr. Estes, was kind enough to chat with Our group, probably because I played his ball on adjoining fairway. He returned it to me on next hole...Oh yes, flat lies are rare...Overall was quite pleased & will return to play again. Booked online & saved a few dollars too!

Went early mid week. I was the second person out, finished in three hours (had a cart). People were friendly. Course was in good shape, beware of the bumpy, hilly fairways when in your cart. Lots of up hill holes, remember to club up. Only one green was in bad shape. Overall really good experience.

I played a round first thing in the morning, and have to say that this course exceeded my expectations. The greens were all in excellent shape, except one, which they were repairing. I am used to greens like this (sloped), and thought that these were a bit slower than the ones I'm used to. You definitely will test your putting skills. I thought the whole course was in great shape and the surrounding mountains made for a beautiful outing. The staff was very friendly as well.

Very scenic, well groomed. Unfortunately we were only able to get 16 holes in before we were drenched by a torrential downpour. Nice greens and a bit faster than your average muni course. Challenging and fun!

We play golf many places, and we live on a golf course in Florida during the winter. Mountain golf is always a challenge, and Craig Wood is no exception. It's hard to imagine that you can have 15 holes uphill and only 3 but CW has manged to do that . The views on the front nine are spectacular, and the trees on the back nine are many. However, the greens are large, quite well maintained, but few are flat, Like you're told by your pro. " stay below the hole."When you finish, try the grille. We had sandwiches and onions, and both were delicious, and the price was right.

This course has challenging greens but the view is breathtaking. With a cart they offer a reasonable green fee.

I play in the September tournament each year and love the course. Tough greens. On the first hole I once had a 6 foot putt for birdie and got a 13, good thing that was the practise round! It would be nice if there was a bit more water on the course, but it is tough as it is. Great course.

We had 6 people with no tee times on Saturday about 1 p.m. of the Columbus Day Weekend. There was no wait, it was beautiful day, the fall colors were at their peak and the course was in great shape for $36 per person with gas cart. Tough course in terms that you need to know that you want to be below the hole on most greens or risk rolling by the pin 20 feet or in some cases off the front of the green entirely. I can see where it would get backed up but that was not the case with us. A great golf experience with friends.

I decided to avoid the pricier Lake Placid Club and Whiteface Club greens fees ($75 & $100 respectively) by playing at Craig Wood for $35. I was a single, and I was surprised but pleased that the starter let me out by myself, which certainly contributed to the back-up and slow play. Another issue is that this is an inexpensive course, so I'm sure it attracts inexperienced players-I saw several-who don't play quickly or efficiently. With all of that being said, I played golf here twice and thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. The course was in excellent shape, the greens are REALLY challenging, and the staff is friendly.

I had high hopes for this course reading a few reviews here and there on the internet and speaking with a few guys at a nearby driving range. The personnel there were very friendly, and unfortunately it goes down hill from there. The course was backed up to start things off, there was bare spots all over, I will say the greens were in really good shape. Tee boxes were so hard my tee were breaking putting the tee into the dirt...yes dirt, not a lot of grass. The course is laid out so opposing holes tee off at each other....yes a 200 yard drive came screaming through the golf cart. We stopped playing after 9 holes, the really nice starter approached us in the parking lot and told us we could start again and play for free, nah I think I'll go back to NJ and play. Lake Placid is for skiing hiking biking and sightseeing....skip it for golf.
