Roberson museum is always fun to go to. At different times of the year they have different events. Like miniature train shows, craft shows and the Christmas tree show. And they always have museum pieces, the miniature train display and the observatory and the Roberson mansion. It's an interesting place to spend the day. There's something for the whole family too.

We have been here on several occasions and always find it entertaining. Our favorite is the planetary room. We could gaze at the ceiling for hours. They are always very knowledgeable about the planets and telescopes used. Would recommend.

Another couple and us attended the annual Masquerade Party at the mansion. Roberson combines the Roberson Mansion, the Science Center building and the Roberson Observatory. On New Years evening the mansion was open to this suit and tie affair. We knew it would be a good evening as we entered the building with fire acrobats outdoors. You receive a map of each of the 3 floors of the mansion and what was happening in all of the rooms. The first and second floors had Tapa's area's with a wide selection of finger foods and on the second floor was a desert bar. There was a photography area in one room which had been over decorated in the holiday spirit and you could get pictures if interested. Music was in the third floor ballroom (A DJ) and live music on the first floor. Bars (cash) were on each floor. There was a variety of entertainment in several of the side rooms, Tarot Card reading, A mentalist, mask making artists (with special mad masks for sale), etc. Throughout the evening fire eaters, ribbon artist, sword swallower's, and the like were roaming the mansion entertaining. The ambience was great as the mansion was decorated for the annual holiday tree show. Bubbly was served to over the 200 guests in attendance. A great night at the museum.

Not so far from the Main Street with so many churches of different branches within the catholics religion ( like baptist, methodist, presbyterian and lutheran), we, in our exploring the city of Binghampton, found this remarkable museum of history and science. it is located in Front Street, that follows along the right bank of the river Chenango, all the way to the confluence with Susquehanna River. And it starts from the Main Street. Here, inside the museum, we saw many interesting exhibitions, devoted to the art, local history, science and natural history.I liked very much the planetarium and a historic mansion, that is told haunting by the ghost of its previous owner. In the museum itself, don't miss the room with model trains and layouts of the regional landscapes in the 1950s.The decoration to the Christmas holidays, the food and wine festival, Halloween activities, science fiction conventions and many more things are present here in museum as well.Good stuff to see!

We were very disappointed with our visit to the Roberson Museum during the Christmas Season. The main attraction was a series of Christmas Trees dedicated to countries from around the world. What we found was a series of artificial trees in every corner stuffed with odds and ends which roughly resembled either the organization or the country. Some were downright creepy. The standing exhibits were eclectic and random. The science exhibits consisted of a variety of bones or stuffed animals, many of them plaster models. Another exhibit had a variety of toys and random artifacts from the 1950's, a half-hearted attempt at the baby-boomers' nostalgia, replete with TV clips of horror movies, pedal cars, and musty clothing. A special exhibit consisted of "treasures from the vault". The highlights of this room were some 19th century furniture, fans, and dolls, dumped in together with some random pieces of modern art and Native American carvings. The best part of the museum were the original 19th century paintings in the mansion. The train display was wonderful, but with a full attendance, shouldn't you turn on more than two trains? The mansion was the amazing backdrop to this well-meaning palaver. With elegant cabinetry and tiger maple cornices, with a classic stairwell out of Gone with the Wind, with wood floors and marble hearths, the old house did patient service to the museum's cheapening "graffiti". I had been looking forward to this respected memory of my childhood. In many places, the museum was noticeably dirty. I left feeling embarrassed that my mother had paid $40 for us to enter.

I have visited this museum often since I was a child. There are always exciting new exhibits to see, a planetarium, and a historic mansion. I also noticed an entire room with model trains and landscapes that is amazingly detailed!. Right now there is a display of ethnic holiday trees and a retro (50's/60's) exhibit that are both a must-see. Every time I come back there is something new to see. I love it here!

We've visited twice and there's something for everyone. Our little man loves the expansive model train room and the planetarium. I really enjoy walking through the Roberson home, you can take your time and enjoy the details of the woodwork and architecture of a home built in that era. Parking is free and ample. I would plan on a 3 hour visit including the planetarium.

We recently had out of town guests visiting for the weekend and decided to visit the Roberson Museum. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. Although the trees were beautiful, we especially liked the history of the local area and the time line of events. The mansion itself is absolutely beautiful. The craftsmanship and detail in on the staircases and woodwork is second to none. Very impressive how it has been maintained and kept up so beautifully. We look forward to visiting again and keeping up on their calendar of events for future visits.

I went here recently just in time for the Christmas tree displays. The trees were really fun to look at, as were the train displays and cultural displays on Christmas around the world. The mansion was all decked out for Christmas and it was beautiful. Great old building beautifully restored.

For a small town, Roberson is a great museum with plenty of programs and attractions. Not sure where the planetarium is but this is special, too.

We were visiting family in Binghamton recently and needed a way to spend the afternoon with 13 and 11 year old kids. We spent several hours wandering around the museum's several halls, gift shop and mansion. The planetarium was closed and I would suggest they at least offer one showing during the weekday - as that was really the only "science" aspect of anything we saw. My husband grew up in Binghamton and the historic exhibits on the area seemed to interest him, but weren't too interesting for us. This is an average experience in a small town, but those who have access to museums in larger cities might be disappointed.

So this visit wasn't at the weekend, so some parts of the museum e.g., the planetarium were closed. The museum is in a new building connected to the old mansion previously occupied by the Robersons. On the ground floor there's a fantastic model railway, together with rooms showing art works. We decided to go up to the top floor and work our way down. The top floor has access to the mansion and specifically the ballroom. The ballroom is large and featureless with no information as to how it might have looked or what it was used for. On descending to the second floor you find various mansion rooms. There's no information about what the rooms were used for. The library is fairly obvious and has many old books which you can pick up and read. We'd been in the museum for about an hour at this point and had met no other visitors. We also found open doors through which we probably shouldn't have entered i.e., into workshops. Other exhibits we came across included exhibitions of quilts, old photographs of famous people, and a dinosaur room. So this museum has a really strange mixture of exhibits and is the only museum I've ever visited with no one else around. An odd experience indeed.

Roberson has lovely displays that change regularly. In our area, the Christmas tree display is probably most well known (and beloved), showcasing different cultural traditions. There are regular local and regional exhibits. The Roberson home is a beautiful facility. It's a great example of a regional museum.

The museum was great and the planetarium host was very good. He answered a lot of questions about telescopes

This place is beautiful. A piece of the past, blended with interesting displays. At the holiday time, the Christmas trees are all over the place and individually decorated. They're beautiful!! The train room is wonderful!! You must visit!!
