Built in 1927, the Chateau was one of the most elaborate theatres built in...

The outside is nice and brings back the 50's until you go inside... Then you are in Barnes and Noble. Seriously I don't know why this book store is an attraction.

The Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Chateau Theater closed Dec. 31, 2014. We enjoyed shopping here whenever we had appointments at Mayo Clinic. There's another Barnes and Noble store in the Apache Mall, but it won't be the classy place this store was.

This used to be a theater and is now a Barnes and noble. It is really nice to look at and a really good place to study. There is free WiFi and a Starbucks inside! Also, it is part of the skyway system.

It was refreshing to see an old building being renovated and reused rather than torn down for something new. The bookstore is the most unique I have ever seen. If you are downtown, stop by for a starbucks and a picture with this historic site.

This old theatre has been turned into a two story bookstore. Very cool look to the place. Store connects to the walkway in dowtown Rochester. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something to do in Rochester.

Neat old theatre outside and inside, but regular Barnes and Noble inside. They would have done better NOT to build a second floor into this beautiful theatre. Nice to see, stop in if you are passing, but don't go out of your way.

Barnes and Noble has done an excellent job re-purposing this old, small town theater, originally built in the 1920s. A lot of things had to give way to the needs of a retail bookseller, but a remarkable amount of the original interior has been preserved, including the box office and the original faux Turkish decoration. All the things you'd expect from B&N are there, including a great place to get a cup of coffee and a treat, and they pull it off in a setting that really adds interest to your visit. Take a selfie inside. Browse a magazine.

I remember this theater when it was downtown. We have taken our grand kids multiple times. They love the dragon in the entryway! Anyway, it is staffed by friendly people and close to where we live which is a plus! Can't beat popcorn and a movie in a theater (even tho it is spendy but concessions always are)

Love visiting this old theater, now bookstore, with each yearly visit to Rochester. A must stop for us each time. It has been beautifully preserved and it serving another form of entertainment for all ages to enjoy.

A treasure even if you don't read. Inside and outside architecture like no other. Another free attraction in Rochester, MN. Don't miss the ceiling, if you don't look up, you missed the whole experience.

Interesting use of space of a former movie theater. Nice just to see what has been preserved, especially on the second floor.

The original film projection booth sits above the second floor balcony, hidden behind the giant Barnes & Noble mural. The theatre's historic decorative side walls — replicate an early French (Normandy) village. The castle, with 40 balconies and 20-foot-high (6.1 m) turrets, resembles a 10th-century French castle (chateau). Children and adults will love it!

I went to this Theatre when it really was a theater (I am 49 years old), I remember sitting in the theater seats before the movie started and staring at the stars in the ceiling, and looking at the "castle walls" . Barnes and Noble Bookstore is there now and they have retained the beauty of the building inside and out! This is not a real movie theater any more, it is a book store!! If you are looking for Paragon Theater/also called Chateau 14, that is one of the Theater here in town.

This bookstore is located in a beautiful old theatre and it is a great place to buy magazines, books, gifts or have a snack at their food center. It is a relaxing environment to just wander and read titles or look at magazines. It is one of my favorite places to vist.
