Lots of information pamphlets including area maps are available at no cost when you stop by the Visitor's Center. The lady working was very nice, informative and professional. She not only pointed out several areas of interest but personalized her information as well. So you're not spinning your wheels, stop by here before you go exploring!

We were hoping for a quaint mining town atmosphere since so many ads for Silver City sounded so inviting. The historic downtown area was disappointing as about 40% of the stores are vacant. The majority of those open are antique stores. There are no pubic benches to rest on and I never did find public restrooms (most stores make it clear that their facilities are for customers only). The town is spread out over many miles and is resembles more of a city than a town. Lastly, we wanted to buy a Silver City sweatshirt or t-shirt to remember our visit... we went to at least 8 stores (including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens) and no one had one.I'm glad we crossed off the Town from our visit list, BUT if I knew what I know now, I wouldn't have traveled the 200+ miles from Las Cruses.

WE escaped El Paso for a day of driving in the mountains. Silver City was not all that exciting. I was expecting more of a Native American presence in information centers. We took along a internet pak so we were able to google the various towns we went through.

This is a beautiful center near Big Ditch Park. The person on duty was able to direct us to restaurants and a museum within walking distance. The parking is good and we walked across a pedestrian footbridge over a beautiful creek to downtown- very convenient. Also got lots of brochures about the area and info on an event that was taking place that weekend. The lobby area had some interesting art and sculpture. The person at the desk said the displays changed depending on what local events were going on. Had clean restrooms too.

Good info, but don't visit on a Monday as the museum is closed on Monday!! Also found that many of the restaurants are closed on Sunday! We have to leave on Tuesday so were very disappointed not seeing the museum!

Well, the information is severely limited compared to past visits. Didn't get answers to several questions regarding the area. I found out what I needed via the internet. Should have saved the time/gas!!

When we got to Silver City we stopped into the Visitor Center since we were having a hard time navigating the online instructions to get to our hotel. The lady who helped us was so nice, she pointed us in the right direction and gave us material that made finding the highlights of Silver City very easy. It definitely set a great trip off on a wonderful note.

Silver City is one big speed trap. Speed limits change about every 1/4 mile on Hwy 180 from Deming to Cliff. There were 4 cop cars sitting in front of our hotel for 2 hours stopping cars in a zone that went from 35 to 45 to 55 within a 1/2 mile from 35 - 55. I was told that the City cops could even give speeding tickets throughout the county (not just the city limits). Is this town that desperate for revenue!

Recently Travelin' Jack...New Mexico's Roving Bulldog Reporter....and I visited Silver City to check out all the pet friendly things to do in the area. And there are many! Of course it's always a good idea to start your adventure at the local visitor information center. And this one is especially friendly to both people and pets. They welcome pets inside to cool off, get a drink of water, and maybe even a photo op with Billy the Kid! Their new campaign "101 Things to Do in Silver City" is a fun guide to discovering all the great things to do in the area. We loved Silver City...and we definitely got a head start on all the great things to do at the Visitor Center.

We arrived a little after 5 p.m. and they unlocked the door for us. All we needed was a map but they were nice & helpful and we returned the next day for more info.

The ladies working here know their stuff. Visiting the area on my way across the country.. the ladies here gave me enough info to fill a week...and helped my narrow it down to what I wanted to see and where to see and eat your way around town!
