Loved this charming small theatre that has been lovingly restored. A perfect venue to see the recent Steampunk Cabaret Show.

I've seen seven different melodramas at the Engine House and have loved them all. The plays are truly funny, and the actors are brilliant. My favorite to date is 'Little Nell' , but all the plays were excellent. The audience participation makes the experience rather unique - and adds to the fun and comedy. If you are ever in the Santa Fe/ Albuquerque area, and want to have a great time... you really should take in a performance at the Engine House Theatre.

I would not go to New Mexico in the summer without scheduling a stop in Madrid for the classic Victorian melodramas at the Engine House Theater!Aside from the charm of a totally unique theater building (built inside the old locomotive repair house) and the opportunity to see a genre of theatre not often seen these days (except, perhaps in updated form on daytime television dramas); the quality of the performances and the joy of having a live piano accompaniment to the action make the Engine House incomparable.If you've got kids who've never been to a live theater, it's a perfect way to get them excited about it: they get to cheer the hero and heroine and throw marshmallows (provided with admission) at the villain when he gets out of hand!Don't miss this hidden jewel.
