old farm school

Grew up down the street and used to walk by this building on my way to school. It now sits across the street from its original location since the road was widened. It is open for a few hours on Sunday and manned by volunteers, and is a free attraction. This sunny afternoon, I saw a few charming volunteers sitting under a shade tree with the school house door open. Dating back to 1796, with a few original desks, it has lovely wide board floors, high ceilings. School house rules are posted on the walls and the teachers podium is at the front. It has a second floor which is "newer" with desks from. he 1840's. In the upper level is the rope to the original school bell dated 1798, and if you are lucky, they may let you ring it. First floor houses a few vintage items.You can spend a few minutes or more enjoying this unpretentious and faithful landmark. Something many drive by daily and few take the time to befriend. Charming!!!
