The actual tour is not something you do every year but you must do it once. The history is amazing, a man ahead of his time!

A beautiful hotel where they stay true to the history of the building. The staff is wonderful and I highly recommend the restaurant there. Because of the age of the hotel, the rooms and even bathrooms may be on the smaller side for some visitors. I was travelling alone so I settled for a room with a double bed. The accommodations would have been a very tight fit in that room for two people. The entire facility and rooms were very clean and well kept. I was pleased to find an abundance of outlets in the room to charge all the electronic gadgets I require for my work. The air conditioning also worked very well. My only negative is the extremely soft mattress. I will definitely consider staying in this hotel again when travelling through and would even consider it for a romantic weekend getaway but I would surely spend the extra money for a larger room.

Took the tour of the Bothwell Lodge. The lodge retains most of the original furnishings. Our guide was very knowledgeable. He shared much of the history of the site and the people. It was a perfect time of year to visit with the leaves changing on the trees. If you are in the area and looking for something to do this is definitely worth your time.

Just four miles north of Sedalia, Missouri, on Highway 65, you will discover a natural wonder called a Missouri State Park called "Bothwell Lodge". As a local residents, my wife and I often take our active Border Collie, "Bandit", for relaxing outings...walking the natural trails through dense forests, open fields, children's playgrounds, picnic benches & charcoal grills and tour the rustic but stately Bothwell Lodge itself situated atop the steep cliff that overlooks the forest to see dual-lane Highway 65 in the distance. Bothwell Lodge State Park with its related gardens, trails, fields and historic buildings is a pristine environment for individuals, groups and families of all ages to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities from playgrounds to hiking, bicycling to volley ball, cookouts to educational tours of the buildings and so much more...available to everyone at no charge! Open year-round from dawn until dusk, we find this park a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic lunch or dinner as we watch our dog roaming nearby. The Bothwell Lodge State Park is seldom crowded, although on weekends you may find businesses, churches, youth groups and extended families enjoying group activities and cookouts on the grounds here. Highly recommended for anyone who needs a relaxing respite from their hectic daily routines o as a rest stop during their travels through west-central Missouri.

Enjoyed the tour. A great way to get a look at life in an early time. Tour was pleasant and the tour guide was a joy.

The lodge tour is something you have to do if you visit here. The house is very unique and looks untouched by time. There are walking trails all around the property that are sure to get you in shape. I love to go hiking here. There is a park with playground equipment for kids and picnic tables/shelters for family events. This is the place to go when the weather is nice.

Unique turn of the century built home...one hour tour cost $4.00 but was will worth the cost...tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and had been there 7 years...answered every question.

We visited on a Saturday, and took the 11:00 tour. Tours are $4 each, and leave on the hour. It was a really hot day, so the tour did not include the top floor, since the lodge is not air conditioned. Our tour guide (Emily, I think) did a great job of explaining everything. I highly recommend taking this tour. I guarantee after you do, you will never look at this lodge from Highway 65 in the same way.

Bothwell Lodge holds so much history. When you arrive, you will watch a short video about the property, how it was purchased and developed, and then you will take a tour of the "castle" on the rock. It was built with a social life in mind, and entertaining was the owner's pride and joy, but he was a rustic man, so expect a manly feel. Much of the original furniture remains, there are several levels, and the basement opens up to a cave opening, which also provided cool air to the entire home in the hot Summertime. Very interesting and highly recommended as a regular visit for parents and children. Home school groups would love it as well.

After staying in the hotel, we definitely wanted to see the lodge, but once we got there, we were not impressed enough to wait 45 minutes for the next tour. Your mileage may vary.

The lodge is a icon in the pettis county area. It sits high on a bluff. Tours during weekends during the summer months. The grounds are open until sundown. Walking trails, playground and picnic area.

We enjoyed this very much. But dress warm as its not heated. Our tour guide did a fantastic job. The grounds would be a great place for family picnic so we plan to return in warmer weather.

A step back into local history, while John Bothwell lived he made this home his residence.Mr. Bothwell was an influential lawyer that accomplished many philanthropic gestures forthe greater Sedalia Area. Plan to visit in the fall when the foiage is full color to enjoy themany views and porches on this fine old home. A short inexpensive tour is available.

We had seen the Bothwell Lodge high on the bluff overlooking U. S. Highway 65 several times, and we were very pleased when we took the time to tour the "country home" of Sedalia banker, John Bothwell. The park is operated as a State Historic Site and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. There is a modest charge to tour the rambling old lodge. We found it very interesting and a look back in time. Also a glimpse into the life of a Victorian era Midwestern pioneer.

Interesting historical tour of the home built by John Bothwell, a name prominent in Sedalia. Tour guides are very knowledgeable of the home and area, as well as Bothwell's personal history. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Bothwell was a generous philanthropist to the Sedalia area, while personally very frugal. Take the time to tour this magnificent home--you'll be glad you did.
