During a long-weekend mini-vacation in Manistee, we decided to do some exploring on the roads between Manistee and Frankfort. The directional road signs for Douglas Valley winery caught our attention and we’re glad that they did. This turned out to be a pleasant part of our afternoon, and will be a destination that we will visit again in the future. The tasting room is located in a beautiful old farm house, which is surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and farm land. The tasting room is comfortable, with two separate bar areas for tasting and service. There is also a gift shop area which has some cute wine-themed gifts. The tasting room offers two complimentary pours, or a 7-pour flight with a souvenir glass for $5. We selected the flight, and would recommend the same for you. It is worth noting that the souvenir glass can be brought back to the winery on future visits for complimentary tastings. As frequently seen at Michigan wineries, the best part of the experience can be found in their white wines. However, Douglas Valley has a few unique niches that are worth sampling. For example, they have a nice sparkling hard cider that is made with the apples grown in Douglas Valley’s own orchard. They also have a variety of special draft ciders on tap, which can be purchased in liter or half-gallon growlers. Beyond that, I would encourage you to taste their wines and find which ones you prefer. The staff at Douglas Valley was very hospitable and friendly. We learned that they offer interesting entertainment during the summer season, including live music. This all sounds like a great reason to return again, in addition to the fun of visiting Manistee’s own winery and enjoying their products.

Having a little time to explore, we decided to try stop in and check them out. Nice variety of fruit wines and ciders. We bought the northeastern sweet red, bunk house white and blue. We also enjoyed their warm cider with a donut topped with a bacon! Can't do much better than that!

So we went last year, did the trading and loved the cherry. This year we came back with the plan to taste again and buy a ton of the cherry for ourselves and friends. We were told that they were out of 3 of their tasting wines. That's okay, we really want the cherry. Nope out of that as well, the cherries are taking an unusually long time to ferment. But they have a new blueberry wine. Oh but wait they sold out of that one. Nevermind, we will hunt for a wine somewhere else. Very disappointed.

The husband and I were staying in Manistee for the 4th of July, so we thought we'd stop by to have a taste. The staff were very friendly, and there wasn't a single wine or cider of theirs that we didn't like. Honestly, we would've bought it all! The flavors are very unique and of the highest quality, and the wines are reasonably priced. Douglas Valley tied with our other favorite winery in the area, Shady Lane. We will absolutely be returning again!

I am drinking a Bunk House White as I write this review and am reminded of how good the wine is.These wines have more complexity than many other Michigan wines. They also have a variety of hard cider. I bought 2 whites and will seek out others. We were here on a weekday afternoon. The wine bar-ista didn't really greet us but the wine tasting made up for the lack of greeting. If you like fruit flavors you can try wine and cider that you will like. The small fee you will pay is typical throughout Michigan.

We went with the neighbors to taste the wine. Bought lots of wine and snacks too. It was a very pleasant experience and beautiful view over looking Lake Michigan from the top of the hillside.

We made a trip to Manistee for the Douglas Winery's First Friday in February. They had a duo of acoustic music that sounded good, a great crowd, good food, and good wine. We purchased a liter of the Cherry Vanilla and were able to drink that at our table while listening to the music. It's too bad they (seem) to only have this planned for Jan/Feb/March. The one downfall of the evening was that is was COLD, even indoors. Wind-chills this night were below zero. This would be something we would return back to on a Friday evening if it was done outside in the warmer weather. Very friendly people and a beautiful winery.

We were searching for a quiet spot to enjoy our picnic lunch on the second day of our Lake Michigan Circle tour and we discovered Douglas Valley Winery. The historic building that houses the winery tasting room is comfortable and attractive, the wines are wonderful and the service even better. Our hostess for the tasting was Priscilla and she was absolutely wonderful. Personable and knowledgeable, Pricilla shared lots of ideas for pairing the DV wines with foods and in recipes. Our picnic on the grounds was idyllic! One of the best parts of our entire trip!

Enjoyed an afternoon listing to music while sitting on the covered porch drinking a bottle of hard cider and eating some snacks. The music is every Sunday during the summer I believe. The hard cider is fantastic, so good we and track to buy more before we left the area. We also got some of their sparkling cider and bunkhouse white wine. The building is a restored bunkhouse used by the railroad. They have adding on to the building and added the beautiful stone covered wrap around porch.

Great little road trip, out to the Douglas Valley winery. Very nice owners and good wine, hard cider and home made rootbeer. They have an interesting little store area with fund foodstuffs and wine accessories. On Sundays from 1:30-4:30 there is live music on "The Porch" with limited seating, as well as tables and chairs out under the trees. Or bring your own chairs! On a beautiful day it is a fun time!
