Lots of interesting pictures & displays about the fishing industry, ships & shipwrecks near the Beaver Island area.
Nice collection of historical photos, information on the fishing industry, the island ferries, and area shipwrecks. Restoring fishing boat and lifeboat on site.
Nicely done with an actual fishing tug (process of being redone) to walk through. Nice exhibits of Island and Lake Michigan history (including Carl D Bradley story). Would go back in a heartbeat. Make sure you allocate enough time (at least an hour).
A work in progress with a dedicated volunteer staff. Very interesting and informative. Go on an actual tug and examine the workings.
enjoyed the photos and tour guide explaining the extensive history -
We loved the outside of the marine museum, very theme oriented to being an old marine museum. It is an authentic net shed from 1906. It is pretty small, but the outside deck at the back of the museum provides a bench, with great views of the harbor/bay/town. More boat activity taking place, on this side of the harbor. The museum mostly has, as their displays, photos-everything related to water activity during the history of Beaver Island-shipping. boating disasters, fishing, etc. There are also some anchors, uniforms, tools, etc. There is also a boat displayed outside, under cover, that you can walk on and pretend you are steering the wheel in the wheelhouse. :) There is a ramp or stairs to access this part of the museum.Free, donations accepted. No bathrooms. Parking is on the street. Very friendly, informative people working the welcome desk.
