indian echo caverns

We took our 4 sons there years ago. We were visiting Hershey and found that it was just really to hot to visit any of the parks that day (well in the 90's). We happen to find an ad for the caverns and decided to give it a try. It was a spectacular find as investigating the cool chambers of the caves gave us that well needed hiking time without the heat. Very friendly staff and a quite a few activities when you come out of the cavern including a fun mining project for the kids.

We went to the caverns on a 17 degree day but it was 52 degrees inside and we loved it. Our guide was thorough and left out no details. We captured some awesome photos as well.

I can't tell you enough how great this trip was. We even braved -20 degree weather in February because we had heard so many stories and it was worth it! The guide was so nice and very informed. the gift shop has so many things I found something for everyone. We plan on going back again in the spring.

I went to visit the indian echo caverns because I thought to get interesting information about the former indian culture and to experiece some nice echo effects. Bad luck!Actually the echo is nothing else that a little bit of resonance within the cavern and the subject "indian" was completely done by one or two sentences about the possibility that in former times indians possibly could have been in this cavern...The guide seemed to be pretty much bored and not really motivated to create any sort of excitement.Altogether it was a disappointing experience for me.

You need around 2-2.5 hours for this attraction. These caverns are naturally built by flow of water. Some of the patterns on the rock is still building by flow of water gradually with time. The most amazing thing I liked about this place was that even if the outside temperature was lower 20s the temperature within the caverns maintained around 55 naturally. The guide informed that no matter what is the temp. outside, this is how it keeps throughout the year.

No elevator and lots of stairs. Cool caverns to tour and interesting history. Check out the box that was found in the cavern inside the gift shop.

Having toured 3 other caverns recently, this one is just average. FYI - There is not an elevator (yes some caverns have them) so the steep 71 steps up and down can be formidable. I would not personally recommend children under 8 taking tour unless very interested in caverns. I left half way thru with very bored kindergartener while spouse continued the tour. The website mentioned a "petting zoo" which turned out to be 3 goats and some roaming fowl. There is a nice playground, picnic tables and seasonally a gem mining setup ($). Very nice gift shop but much of it was more than I wanted to spend. However, there is a 20% off (1 item) coupon available in the visit Hershey/Harrisburg travel magazine.

We went to see the caverns late Saturday morning. There weren't very many people there, we had about 15 in our tour group. Our tour guide was Maggie. She was great! So informative and friendly. She really made the experience worth it.After she went over some "rules", she took us down about 70+ steps. Gave us some history about the caverns and the indians who used it as a shelter.Once you get inside though....so amazing. We didn't really know what to expect and we were absolutely blown away by the "ball room" with it's 80 ft(?) high ceiling and the tunnels leading off of it. It was absolutely amazing. One of the tunnels had a "pool" with the clearest water that you were never expect to be down there. Maggie pointed out so many features that you wouldn't have otherwise seen, or noticed.There is a great little gift shop, too! This was definitely worth the stop.
