Finally a source for coffee aficionados who have to limit caffeine! Don't know what's happening with the commercial coffee industry these days, but the quality of familiar brands is changing in an unappealing way (at least to our palates); and decaf has always been a hit or miss proposition. Some time ago we also discovered that decaf is exponentially better when freshly ground from freshly roasted beans and even began ordering green decaffeinated coffee beans for in-home roasting. End result: a lot of work for a little coffee and still a hit or miss situation. Enter: Greencastle Coffee Roasters. These guys deliver a high-quality product with a comforting consistency that keeps us coming back month after month. We've tried all the blends and exotics, but our favorites continue to be the Decaf Guatemala Antigua and Decaf Costa Rica varieties for pure, rich, smooth, old-fashioned "honest" coffee flavor. These roasters do a brisk business, and the product is always fresh. I store my whole beans in the freezer in the original bags inside a plastic bag with zip closure and only grind what I need for immediate use. Don't believe the popular advice disseminated elsewhere to store roasted beans at room temp. Your freezer is your best friend for keeping those freshly roasted beans fresh! The service is always prompt, pleasant, and efficient. [PS - There are awesome teas and exotic rices to be found here, as well as a small Asian grocery section in back, and freshly roasted peanuts on Wednesdays!]

We stopped here on the way to Berkeley Springs and have been getting their "Crossroads Blend" mailed to us ever since. The woman is wonderful, patient and honest. I asked her about the dark roast beans and she said that she was more of a medium roast drinker. She proceeded to introduce me to all the dark roasts in the house. Finally got to "Crossroads" and it is perfect, balanced and rich-- doesn't confuse bitterness with burned. If you like it dark you should try it, otherwise, just go and find what makes you happy.PS Freshly roasted peanuts are warm and smell wonderful. The 5lber comes in a handsome brown paper bag that is a perfect gift-- alas-- they never got crunchy!!!PSS They have a marvelous old-fashioned candy section. The grapefruit jellies will make you weep.with joy. Perfection!

The smell is amazing in this place and selection is endless. It's hard to know what to purchase because of the selection. We just bought the house blend. You can get whole bean or they'll grind it for you. It's around $11-12 a pound which is a little more than we spend on coffee normally, but thought we'd try it. It's good, the house blend, but not much better than eight o clock whole bean, which we normally get. Doubt I will return in the future.

Small place but a lot of choices of coffee. Har an international store feel and had some interesting niche items

I stop here twice a year while on a regular vacation trip. The "House Blend" is our family's favorite coffee...strong and flavorful enough for me but not too strong for my wife. The "Lisa's Winter Wonderland" is great on a cold winter day, and the "Highlander Grog" is also good. The $1.25 five-cup samplers are a great way to try exotic coffees without buying an entire pound. We mail order also and they ship promptly. The people who run the shop are also very friendly and take a lot of pride in their store.
