Love this place. Ghost tours in October, and you can even rent the castle for an evening and conduct your own ghost tour with your own group! Very cool!Very friendly people! So much history! Haven't made it out for a Christmas tour yet, but we will be sure to this year!

My husband , our son and his girlfriend really enjoyed the Christmas tour of Nemacolin Castle. We had not been here since the around 1990 for a Halloween haunted tour. The price was $8 a person and it was well worth it. The tour guide gave very informative history information of the Bowman family and the period decor. There were many donated antiques and every room had a Christmas tree and decorations done by various individuals or small groups. Cookies and warm apple cider were included in the tour. There was a gift shop with very reasonable priced items although they could have had more items to offer. I would recommend this for all ages and definitely put it on the list of Christmas things to attend. We were there the Friday after Thanksgiving around 4:30pm. Tours were from 4-9pm that day. (There are more tours in early Dec. on the weekends from 5-9pm.

Growing up in Brownsville, I took places like this for granted. Once I moved and returned to the area, I appreciate the steep history of my town. Nemacolin Castle is worth at the very minimum, a look.

Nemacolin or Bowman Castle sits high on a hill overlooking the Monongahela River south of Pittsburgh PA. Built in several stages, the earliest portion of the castle dates to the 1790's. With an octagonal tower and battlements, it certainly looks like a castle from the outside. Most of the interior rooms are decorated for the Victorian period. The hallways need work to improve their appearance. Being early in the season, the grounds needed a spring touch up. The guide provided good background on the history of the castle and the Bowman family who owned it for several generations. The name "Nemacolin" honors an American Indian who lived in the area.

We went on a Ghost Tour of the Castle. So disappointed that no Ghosts would come to visits us.It is very old and needs repair but they are trying their best to repair the place. Bathroom facilities that are available her is a small attached area with real plumbing , not the greatest but when you gotta go, it works.(Better than a porta pot!) The out side premises had re-inactors camping their on the premise for the weekend. They are very willing to talk with you too.

Tis place is beautiful. The grounds are gorgeous as well. My company hosted an employee night there and it was som ice. The food was delicious, some of us played volleyball, and some of us went zip lining. Beautiful zip lining course. This place is wonderful for families, couples, corporate events. I definitely would like to come back again.

On our last trip to Pennsylvania to visit family, we toured Nemacolin Castle in Brownsville, PA. Our tour guide was fantastic, taking us through history. You'd never know that the place started as a humble 2 room trading post. We got a glimpse into life as the family grew and transitioned through the early days into the boom years of the industrial revolution. There are many interesting pieces of furniture in the home and well as the "tools" of the day. We understand there are spirits present in the home but we were there during the daylight hours and did not encounter any activity. Next time.We extended our day by stopping in to St. Peter's Catholic Church. Amazing stained glass there that depict the French, British and Indians. Beautiful and touching.

Been touring here for the past four years and I learn something new every time I come! Amazing house with loads of history, and I suggest the historical tour over the "haunted" any day. When you tour the home you are transported to another time, gives you a glimpse what Brownsville must of been like back in it's hay day!Dated a local who worked there conducting tours... VERY haunted.

We took the ghost tour at Nemacolin castle in October 2011 and October 2012. The tour was extremely interesting and done almost completely in the dark, adding to the creepy factor.During the tour we took several pictures and found orbs, mist and even what looks like a little ghost dog in one of them. It's a very interesting tour and a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit. If you'd like to see the pictures we took, you can view them here: http://www.daniellemcginnis.com/2011/10/nemacolin-castle-our-trip-to-real.html

I had seen Nemacolin Castle featured on "My Ghost Story" and since it is reasonably close to where I live, I decided to do the Ghost Tour. It was a huge disappointment. The young lady who conducted our tour had memorized the script to perfection, but she had no enthusiasm for her subject. She started every section with, "Now blah, blah, blah. . . ", then she just just kind of trailed off. She never asked if we had any questions. She didn't give us much background or personal information about the family. As we left each room, she said, "You guys can follow me." The tour is based solely on information gathered from paranormal investigators, staff and previous guests. I understand that this was not a Halloween "haunted house" with fake monsters jumping out to scare you, but I think they could make the presentation eerier. We ARE talking about the paranormal here.Despite all that, I would actually like to tour the house again - in the daylight. From what I could tell in the candlelight, it is a beautful castle.
