My wife and I decided to rent a ATV in the ATV capital of the midwest, Darlington, Wisconsin. I don't know if it is or not, but they are ATV crazy in this area of Wisconsin. Called up to Mike's to check about renting a ATV. Had never ridden on a ATV before. The person that answered the phone was very polite, courteous, answering all my questions. Went ahead and reserved a 750 side by side. When we arrived a week later, the price we were quoted was the price we were charged. Very reasonable. $180 for the 8 hours. The had more expensive side by sides as well as cheaper single person vehicles. We had a brief once over with the vehicle and we then we were off. Went north up to Mineral Point. You follow along the river quite a bit of the time. Had lunch in a nice cafe. Most of the towns are set up where you are allowed to drive ATV's on specific streets. Really pretty nice and convenient. After lunch we drove back south and then took a trail west to Belmont. Went thru some nice rural areas, many bridges. This area had quite a few amish carriages out on the trail with young boys fishing on the meandering stream that we kept crossing. Continued south back thru Darlington and headed toward Monroe. Made it down to South Wayne before we turned around and headed back to Darlington. All in all, traveled 110 miles on that atv for the day. Actually was pretty comfortable. The side by side was nice in that it allowed us to alternate on driving. Was pretty easy to talk with each other without too much noise. Nice area behind that you can store a cooler or whatever. There are a handful of towns along the trail that you can eat/drink or just check out some of the businesses. We went on a Thursday and hardly anyone was on the trail that day in June. It sounds like it can get pretty busy on weekends with riders. I have read some other reviews and they are correct in that this is pretty flat and straight. Not a lot of excitement if that is what you are looking for. If you want a nice ride for the day, this will certainly meet that requirement. It had rained a few days previous so very little dust. The trail was very well maintained. Pretty solid. It follows along the river quite a bit. Just a very relaxing day. I would highly recommend renting from Mike's. Very friendly staff and can answer any question you may have about the surrounding area, the trails, equipment etc. If you get back after they have closed at 6pm, you just drop the key off in the dropbox. We drove all day and when we filled back up, it was a little over 3 gallons. There was a nice Super 8 just south of town that we stayed at overnite. A few restaurants in town. Stopped by Annie's for a beer after riding all day. We are from the Iowa City area so this worked out great in that we left at 8:00 am and were on the trail by 10:00 am. Got back to Mike's right at 6pm. Could have just driven back home that nite but decided to stay overnite.
