Visited this unique museum whilst touring Route 66 - just a small detour off the main route. The museum is free and the lady on the cash desk was very kinowledgeable and interesting. I particularly liked the barbed wire stetson hat - although I would not like to wear it!! Definitely worth a visit.

Since I visited the Chisholm (Cattle Drive) Trail museum two days ago, I wanted to see and learn more about what "killed" the cattle drives. I was totally unaware that there are over 2500 different kinds of barbed wire (a patent is required for each). I was totally unaware of the great number of people that "collect" barbed wire. It was interesting, to say the least.

We spotted the Barbed Wire Museum in our road atlas, and said "that has to be worth a detour." Boy, were we right! As city folk, we had no idea of the important role that barbed wire has played in making frontier farming and ranching possible...the varieties of BW...and the large network of collectors. It's a great small museum (an hour is plenty of time unless you're already a BW collector) and super-friendly staff.

What a great little museum this is. Right next to the Post Rock Museum. The collection of wire was donated by one man who had been collecting for over 35 years. There are over 2500 unique patented wires on display plus a wide assortment of associated products. Just a fascinating stop worth an hour of time. No one could guess what one man collected. Get off I-70 and travel the back roads for a trip back through history.

It's free and fun. I had no idea there were so many different types of barbed wire. There are 3 museums on that property, be sure to visit them all.

I never knew there are so many kinds of barb-wire. A lot of history can be learned about this part of the mid-west. The local people have been through some tough weather.

An awesome little museum w/separate buildings as well as the barbed wire museum building. A very attentive museum lady w/lots of stories, a video to show, and we wandered at our leisure. Just be nice and leave a donation. Very interesting if you are in the area for western and old and history.

What a proud little town! I love La Cross, Kansas, dearly and the Barbed Wire Museum perfectly epitomizes the homely and kind folks in La Crosse. The museum itself was beautifully well done, and highly informational. I was quite impressed!
