Captain Mike and crew mate Billy are great! It was a nice day. We saw a few dolphin on the ride back and lots of birds. I would like to come back and camp.

I loved the fact that Captain Mike so friendly and full of information not to mention the fun tropical music. On the way back it was a bit chilly so he closed the windows for me and gave me and my daughter clean blankets to use.

Personally we had no issues with the ferry. We took it to go over to Cayo Costa State Park in Boca Grande area. The crew were very nice to us, helped us with our bags both ways, made sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. The ride over to Cayo Costa took about an hour. We saw lots of dolphins. There is a tiny bathroom on board if you need it for an emergency. We were not aware we would have to pay for parking at the marina in addition to paying for our ferry ticket, so don't be surprised at that. I think it was an additional $10.00. We packed very lightly, just a few large backpacks. But a lot of people brought TONS of stuff with them for "camping" on Cayo Costa and for the cabins. So, seeing how much stuff people brought, next time I would probably bring another bag or two so that we were really comfortable. When you take the ferry over there is a tram to bring you to your tentsite, so the maximum distance should have to haul your stuff might be 25-50 yards. It was a holiday weekend when we were there, and very busy. We had no issues with our tickets, however like three separate parties apparently did not get the correct return time. They (allegedly) called the Tropic Star office for the 1 pm return time, but somehow got bumped to the 3 pm return time. I wouldn't think anything of it if this was just one person, but the three separate parties this happened to makes me think there might be an issue. So, I would call their office to confirm the times both the night before AND the day of if I were you.

Two years ago we took the Tropic Star ferry to Cayo Costa. We come back to Sanibel every year and decided we would use them again to visit the park.Happy to see Captain Bruce is still piloting the boat. He gave lots of historical information, much of it I hadn't heard before, so it was interesting. Joe, his "mate," was personable and very accommodating. The boat ride is about an hour long. We were so lucky this time...dolphins galore! Several swam along side of the boat (within 18 inches), and one breached twice within a foot! Offered passengers cold water on the way back. It's a fun, inexpensive way to get to Cayo Costa. We WILL do it again next year!

I have used tropic star 2 times now. Both times for dropping off and picking up on cayo costa state park for overnight camping trips. The captain and deckhand are great and so friendly. On the ride to cayo costa, the captain gives some history on the area. Very interesting. I have no reason to ever use anyone else when I'm there.

We booked through Tropic Star and will do again. The people are very friendly and helpful. They even honored the price I found online even though it was a mistake on the web page. Great captain with lots of knowledge of the islands around.

Thank you Tropic Star for the lovely day. The cruise to Cayo Costa was fun and comfortable. Captain and crew were most accommodating. Fortunately we had a rehearsal drive to the dock the day before as sign pointing to Tortuga St. is poorly positioned and easily missed.

We wanted to see 'Old Florida' in a comfortable way. The open flat 'Jungle Boat' was perfect. We enjoyed the history lesson on our way to Cayo Costa as well as the dolphins swimming alongside the boat at times. The boat was pretty full when we started but some folks go to Cayo Costa for the day...others are just going to Cabbage Key for lunch....we chose Cabbage Key and then a couple of hours at Cayo Costa. Our trip home at 3:30 had less than 10 on the boat. An interesting day. Cabbage Key lunch OK...loved the state park & beach walk...would highly recommend the company and tour.

Travel to Cayo Costa State Park and to Cabbage Key or take a short trip to Boca Grande. This lovely nature cruise and ferry service business will give you an opportunity to see dolphins, enjoy the out islands, abundant water and shore birds and so much more. The Captain will entertain and inform with wonderful stories about the history, the flora and fauna, This is a great family adventure. Cayo Costa State Park is unspoiled and the shelling is fabulous. This is a MUST if you are visiting southwest Florida. Easy access from Pine Island with no bridge tolls. Stop and shop in Matlacha's unique art galleries and gift shops while enroute and dine in one of the island's great seafood places.

My first experience last year: My husband and I were waiting for them to come pick us up from the deck. As they were approaching the deck, the captain told the his assistant "Oh great, they (the campers) put all their sh** right where we need to get off" WOW! I couldn't believe how rude he was. Second experience this year: As we got on the boat, the assistant called out are name and told us that our credit didn't go through. Pretty embarrassing!! Same thing happened to several campers. So it happened, it was the clerks fault who had the numbers wrong, on all the cases. FAIL!! After that we have been looking for other charter companies to use to visit Cayo Costa. I think we rather pay more at this time. Also, if you call and leave a message, keep calling. They DO NOT return calls.

This is a must if you are visiting Pine Island. Captain Bruce & Moose were fantastic. What a nice boat tour to Cabbage Key Inn and Cayo Costa. It made for a very memorable day. Thanks guys!

Our cruise with Captain Bruce was terrific, having lunch at Cabbage Key and spending a few hours on the beautiful undeveloped Cayo Costa Beach. Although the Jug Creek Marina is a bit remote, it provided everything we needed to catch the Tropic Star ferry. Parking and rest rooms were good and the crew provided assistance loading beach and camping gear. The boat was quite slow, but we had opportunities to view dolphins and learn about the area. Luch at Cabbage Keys exceeded our expectations in both food quality and atmosphere. The rangers at Cayo Costa were great hosts and the beach provided a glimpse of undeveloped Florida. What a contrast to what we normally experience. The crew of the Tropic Star dealt with the enormous amount of camping gear on the 3:30 ferry landing in CAyo Costa very professionally, despite the amount being transported. Overall it was a real bargain and a very enjoyable day. Highly recommended!

I had the pleasure of joining a day cruise through Pine Island Sound aboard a tour boat called the Tropic Star with a delightfully entertaining captain. The highlight of the multi-island trip (Cayo Costa, Useppa and Cabbage Keys) was the narration of the area sights and their history offered by its captain, whose first name is Ted. His stories were educational while remaining highly entertaining -- a tough combination. I highly recommend anyone traveling in SW Florida and the area around Boca Grande and Captiva, islands, and Charlotte Harbor, to include Pine Island and book a trip aboard the Tropic Star -- especially on a day when a captain named Ted is at the wheel.

We took the full day Tropic Star cruise to Cabbage Key and to Cayo Costa State Park. The first mate did a nice job of supplying blankets on the chilly morning part of the trip. The captain does a good job of narrating the history of the area. We stopped to let folks off at Cayo Costa then went to Cabbage Key for an early lunch. We sat down to eat at 11:00, they don't open the restaurant to others until 11:30, so we had our choice of where to sit. We chose the "dollar room" where the decor is dollar bills plastered over the walls and ceilings. I chose the cheeseburger for my meal. It came with cole slaw and a "kosher" pickle (as in Jimmy Buffet's song) would have cost 75 cents extra. The cheeseburger was good but the cole slaw just okay. I should have tried the potato salad. We were then boated over to the state park where we got to spend some time on the pristine beach. We didn't see as many shells as we expected and were a bit disappointed in our "find". The Tropic Star picked us up promptly for our return trip. The Captain and first mate (also a captain) were knowledgeable and nice. It was a bit too cool the day we went but one can't control the weather. I bet this is a nice boat ride on a warm day.
