Take the secondary routes to this beautiful park with 2 large waterfalls and countless smaller ones. Ducks roam freely through the area. Take a picnic basket and enjoy the serenity of the park at the picnic tables. Explore the working mill. Don't forget your camera! A remarkable stop not to be missed!

Located in the beautiful region of Nordeste, this is one of the most searched for places on São Miguel. With it's wonderful waterfalls, babbling brooks and watermills this truly is the spot to be discovered. It has a small cafe and gift shop as well as an apartment for rent if you want to stay over on the way to the far east of the island. The scenery is amazing, the park, well landscaped and the old mills give you an indication of what used to take place here. A great place to relax and an absolutely 'must see' on your visit to São Miguel.

Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes is a free park/garden along the secondary (more scenic) highway in the north-east of Sao Miguel in the Nordeste region. The first waterfall is perhaps the prettiest on the whole island. There is free parking beside the road and you will notice it with the scenic waterfall on the hillside. Park, walk to the waterfall base, then cross the road and visit the old mill, the coffee and souvenir shop (strangely this was the best kitschy souvenir shop I saw on the island - good for a few gifts for home), and take a leisurely walk down the paths descending along the Caldeiroes River to enjoy the beautiful plants and scenery. Clean bathrooms and places to have a picnic lunch are provided. If you are in Nordeste town, head west along the road that is not the highway - if you have time, I'd suggest taking this smaller winding road even further along to enjoy the coastal scenery

This was our first stop on a day out from Ponta Delgada to explore the east of the Island. It is a good first place to stop for a stretch, photos and coffee and is relatively easy to find. Don't make the mistake I made of retracing my steps the way I came to the Via Rapida but keep driving on and you will arrive at Nordeste. As others have said it is relaxing to wander around the waterfalls, levada and small local grounds. Nice on a sunny day. Plenty of parking available. Free to visit.

An absolute must see if you are in Sao Miguel. It was a little difficult to find but well worth it. Beautiful walk around the grounds.

This place should easily have a dozen waterfalls of all kinds. The main waterfall is visible from the road, but an easy trek up and down reveals several other waterfalls..

Amazing place not far from Nordeste, with a picturesque waterfall and a very nice park. There is also a cafe here and a small hotel.

We planed a full day tour with Greenzone. Nordeste is unbelieveably beautiful. The park has a mixture of native and plants that were brought in. Our tour guide even pointed out fern trees that were around when dinosaurs were- Jurassic Park anyone? The waterfalls are stunning (being from Niagara I like to think I know waterfalls ;). There's even a cute little gift shop and museum with a guestbook. I would Definately suggest going with a smaller tour for Nordeste. Our group had 5 people in the jeep and we had the opportunity of travelling through the forest. Unbelievably beautiful.

We visited this beautiful place, with Amazing tours, full day day trip to Nordeste. We walked and explore the entire park, it was gorgeous, many beautiful trails, natural surroundings, Water streams and 2 Water Falls. You shouldn't miss this place, recommended to make this stop, if you go to Furnas or Nordeste.

We have seen many many falls and this waterfall is very impressive and scenic. You can see the waterfall right off the road and parking is on the street, it is just so friendly to get to without exhausting in sweats. The roads have tons of flowers and the surrounding is just so nicely arranged and planted, everything there is just perfectly placed. When we were there, we were the only one there and it was in the morning. You get to enjoy this place with so little to no disturbance. This place is undisturbed and the fence is just right off the track you can walk up to the fall and feel the water if you dare.Very scenic and I think it was the highlight for our 3-days stay and I am so glad that I saw it on a postcard and decided to come and see. Everything immediately near the waterfall is also very scenic and just so pleasant to the eyes.

This was a great place to spend the afternoon. The waterfall was amazing, you can even get right up in the waterfall if you want, the grounds are beautiful and it was a nice quick spot for lunch and a café. The lilly pond was my favorite.

We combined this park with a trip to the tea plantation. The waterfall near the road looked very appealing, dream-like. So we took a trail to the top of the waterfall to check it out closer. This was a bit funny, since it's just a big pipe at the edge of the forest splurging water down. There is no visible river feeding the waterfall! So we went to track the pipe, which basically meant following the trail to the right of the waterfall. After 4-5 minutes we went around a corner and were treated to something really special. There we saw another waterfall, with no tourists around, and a heavenly pond in front of it to swim in, all for ourselves. It was great, I won't forget this moment. I swam around in the pond and stood below the falling water. A picture of this moment is included in this review. It's actually the water from this waterfall that feeds the one near the road, the one everyone takes pictures of!In short: follow the trail to the right of the (faux) waterfall for a few minutes to discover a magical place with a genuine waterfall where you can swim.

The climate is a combo of temperate and subtropical, which amazed us as we are gardeners. We saw things from both of our home states -- Florida and Maryland, that surprised and delighted us.
