The Mt. Kazbek is one of the most famous mountains in Georgia an it's situated near the city of Stepandsminda in the beautiful Caucasus mountains. It's an old stratovolcano and over 5000m high. The view from there is amazing and great is also the untouched nature around Mt. Kazbek and Stepandsminda. Great place for outdoor lovers, hikers and climbers. Also a must see in Stepandsminda.

The Caucasus have got to be one of the the most spectacular mountain range in the world. I flew over it from Moscow and was able to appreciate its massive beauty. Then to drive up from Tbilisi, and find this mountain peak just sitting there shining in the sun. Most awesome!

5037 m tall, Mt. Kazbek really stands out of the surrounding mountains and is always worth a flash card full of photos. It´s nowadays just a day tour from Tbilisi as the Cross Pass road is renovated and its just a 2.5 hours trip. Of course not when you will stop at all the view points along the road. For those who do not want to spend a night or two in Stepantsminda I would advise to start early in Tbilisi, doing the other viewpoints on the way back, because clear view on the summit is mostly in the morning. Hard core photographers fixed on sunrises can leave Tbilisi 3 hours before sunrise and will be back even in breakfast time in their hotel. For those who have more time a stay is recommended as there are a lot of beautiful places to discover.

the beautiful view from Hotel Kazbegi's 'great" room. The entire area is beautiful. So peacefuland serene. One can take many pictures of this mountain and because the sun, clouds, sky isconstantly moving no one picture is the same. I watched people photographing the mountain for at least an hour from the hotel balcony. Highly recommend!!!

Mount Kazbeg is the second tallest mountain in Georgia. It's amazingly beautiful and when seen from the Gergeti Trinity Church it's as off the mountains around have opened up a corridor for an amazing view of Kazbeg and makes you feel like it stands alone. This time I was only able to see it but if you have alpine gear, you can get a tour guide and hike up to the peak of Kazbeg. It's about a 4 day hike up and down. It's def on my bucket list of things to do when I return to Georgia

Kazbegi(Stefantsminda) is situated in Georgia,in my country. I have been here with my collegue on business meeting and stayed in ,,Rooms hotel". I would like describe in a few words this breathtaking place. From this comfortable hotel we can see ancient Gergeti Trinity Church . The church is situated near the village of Gergeti in the Georgia, on the right bank of the river Chkheri (the left tributary of the river Terek), at an elevation of 2170 meters, under Mount Kazbegi. The Gergeti Trinity Church was built in the 14th century, and is the only cross-cupola church in Khevi province. I recommend to stay in this hotel and see this ancient church surrounding with picturesque places.

Kazbek is one of the highest mountains in this part of Georgia. I visited it, with fellow travellers from the guest house I stayed in Tbilisi, with Boris a very experienced and first class taxi driver. You can take tourist excursions, or hire your own car - but given the terrain of the Caucasus (particularly once of the Georgian Military Highway - or Army road as they call it locally) there are boulders that defy belief - so unless you are used to driving in this terrain best to go with an expert. The drive alone is worth the visit, but once you get to the foothill and the village of Kazbek you need a four wheel virtual tank to get further up. One of the oldest churches in Georgia lies in the shadow of this great mountain. Stunning views, clear air and just that feeling of touching something magical. A total must if you only take one trip out of Tbilsi.

We ve been on a hike there with my friend and our tour leader where I ll drop his info below as he was the best of the trip in terms of explanation about the sight. It was a snowy day which made it more difficult but once we reached the church on the top, we were all good with the warmth of the church. If you are going there for the first time you should contact this gentleman to guide you through. His name is Malkhaz Spanderashvili or you can call him Marko better. You can reach him on this email to arrange your trip: makhotours@hotmail.com

The most popular hike in Kazbegi is to the Trinity church or further along towards the Gergeti glacier on the slopes of Mt. Kazbek. We hiked from Gergeti village up to the church and then on to the ridge just below the Arsha pass from where you can see the glacier. Had the weather been better we might have continued further but the clouds had dropped quite low reducing visibility and making it an easier decision to turn around. Nevertheless, this was a spectacular hike with amazing scenery on view whenever the clouds cleared. There are a couple of paths up to the church, all from Gergeti village. None of these is marked very well but it's easy enough to find your way. From the church, you descend briefly before following a path up into the woods. The path then splits, giving you the choice between the climber's route and the more spectacular ridge route. These paths meet at the Arsha pass, where you can view the Gergeti glacier. The weather can change rapidly up here. We started the hike in sunshine, but it had turned so bad by the time we had reached the climber's route that we almost turned back. This shortly cleared, however, giving us beautiful views down to the church, though Mt. Kazbek and the glacier remained in the clouds. The descent by the ridge route was beautiful, with steep drops down to the valley below and nice views to the church in the distance.

4 of us took the challenge to climb Mt Kazbeg this year.... Scenery fantastic and we hiked for 4 days, day 1 from Stephantsminda across the glacier to Betlemi hut at 12000 ft (3653m).... A good hike. Weather was changing from stunning summer to hailstorm in 40 mins.. We went to a small church for 3 people on acclimatisation day.... day 3 we went for the best, out at 0200 in the morning and off we went, had a good guide and that was gold worth... weather changes to snowstorm quite quickly at these conditions and you can sometimes only see 2 - 3 m ahead of you.... Betlemi hut is pretty basic, but hey you are not here to be pampered. However the hut can be improved to a more comfy standard. All kind of people here, mainly Polish, Ukraine with a good mix of Israelis and Iranians

We hiked to the viewing point of the Glacier, a very nice walk. A rounn trip will take about 7 hours. If you want to visit the glacier, at 2 or 3 hours depending on your condition. Dont forget the sun creme!

We climbed from Gergeti village through Tsminda Sameba (trinity church) to the outlook point over the Gergeti glacier. The view until you reach the church is not very interesting, but from there upwards it is spectacular. I especially loved looking at the church from above with the opposite mountain ridge as background. It is vital to identify and pursue the correct trail from the church. The correct path is easily missed. From the church you need to go on the jeep road, and then after a couple of minutes turn left to a barely visible trail that climbs over the ridge line. There's a broader left turn before the actual turn which is misleading - if you reached a farm, you're on the wrong course and should turn back. Don't be shy and ask for guidance from other travelers if you're not sure.
