We were on a sailing trip with Sail Croatia and arrived in Mijet-di snot expect much but I was wrong. Went into national park and walked for awhile and followed main track to hire bicycles and rode right around park for a lot of kilometres!!!! It was flat all the way and cheap to hire as well. If you get a chance definitely do this as it is so worth as it is flat all the way around and i am talking lots of km- maybe 25km? Scenery to die for cycling right around the beautiful lake. Came across a charming lakeside restaurant/ cafe and had cold refreshment. I am so glad I did this-do not hesitate if you get the chance and you are in Mijet for a day.

fantastic island of national park and beautiful nature, great for a day trip on the boat or a stay overnight

We sailed arond the island. The smaller villages and coves are the best for crystal clear water and a more authentic experience. Some good hiking on the island.

You get off the catamaran ferry on the island and you immediately get ushered towards a kiosk where they make you pay an entrance fee to the park and then you get on a bus to get there. In reality there isn't actually any need to pay this fee or get on the bus if you are willing to walk across land for about 20 minutes as there is nowhere other than the kiosk at the ferry to pay. They don't even put this forward as an option. We walked back from the park and it was fine. The park itself is lovely and well worth a walk up the hill to get a lookout over the lakes.

We had a great return journey to Mljet, so picturesque. Mljet is such a peaceful environment and I would love to return one day and stay there. The national parks have a great bus service to the jetty and then boats that run to and from the different areas of the lake. Swimming was better near the island as it was less crowded. There are little restaurants near the large ferry terminal and drinks are available. Excellent day

The visit was interesting, including the boat trip to the Benedictine Monestary on an island; unfortunately, the Monestary was closed for renovation and appeared to have been closed for quite a while. Check out the bike rental to go around part of the lake on the road ringing the lake, it may be possible to bike part of the way and take the boat shuttle back to your starting point.

This place is so serene yet everything that we wanted was there, great walks, great views, great food, all in all a great place to visit.

We stopped here as part of a cruise up the Dalmatian coast. We hiked from the harbor through a nice forest path to the boat that took us to St Mary's Island and the abandoned monastery. When we hiked to the top of the hill, there was a small stable with a mother and baby donkey. There was a small cafe on the island. Our boat was quite crowded, but the ride didn't take long.

Mljet is stunningly beautiful, has mild weather even off season but the facilities haven't quite caught up with the demand. I visited for 2 days towards the end of October, and with weather conditions in the high 10s and amazing scenery, I did enjoy my visit. However, without a car it was a logistical nightmare. The public ferry from Dubrovnik only runs once a day, returning at silly o'clock in the morning. I stayed in Sobra because I couldn't find any information in advance about how to catch the ferry at 6.30 out of season if staying elsewhere on the island. The Lanterna restaurant in Sobra is open but only serves beer from October until the season starts again! The nearest shop selling provisions is 3km up a high speed road; the owners of the well priced and well set up Guest House Ruza where I stayed kindly gave me a lift. There are no regular buses round the island and car hire is a little on the pricey side (and I didn't have my licence) so I was limited to Sobra and around. The hiking and biking trails are good enough to rival most locations. There's even apparently a 4 day cross-island route which opened in 2012, with an extension to Saplunara in the pipeline. But there are no signs or maps and there's no tourist information in Sobra. I still managed to explore my way along a gorgeous trail through holm oak/pine forests stuffed full of bird species to a deserted jetty in glorious sunshine. Come on Mljet tourist office - this place is an absolute gem but needs some proper information and facilities. This island has such potential to become a year round destination, but needs some more consideration and investment to maximise its potential without spoiling its charm.

Travelled on the local ferry and hired the mountain bikes. Saved a fortune compared to the price of the organised trips. Dont miss out on a fantastic day out!

We booked a day trip to Mljet with a local travel agent in Cavtat, the journey took a couple of hours via bus/ferry to get to the island but our guide provided lots of information / breaks along the way. Mljet is very scenic and tranquil, beautiful lakes surrounded by lush, green woodland. The lakes are great for swimming because the water is warm and there are lots of hidden ledges around the perimeter so you can relax/sunbathe in privacy. There is another tiny island within Mljet which houses the Monastery of Saint Mary, very pretty and worth a visit even if it is just to feed the donkeys :)We were only there for a few hours so didn't have a chance for any activities but there appeared to be lots on offer e.g. car/bike rental, kyaking, trekking/cycling.

Peaceful and Scenic. Lovely lakes, easy bike trails. Beware the catamaran time table is unreliable at the end of September. Double check when the Winter schedule begins.

We booked an all inclusive day trip from independent firm in Dubrovnik. We were picked up by car from our Hotel, very early! One ferry a day so quite busy. Takes nearly two hours to get to Mijet and not most luxurious ferry/hydro.We were met by guide, bit strong a description as he was with us for bits of trip but seemed to work for National Park or at least boat company. He was very nice but day was not quite what we were sold. You can only get a very small taste in day main problem ferry time. That's the negative bit positive it is natural paradise and a cycle/walkers heaven. We took boat to monastery Island first which is beautiful. The site is partially closed as Roman ruins have been found beneath. Met mummy mule and foal in grounds you can donate towards feed. Shame time constraints meant had leave after hour. We went across big lake to bridge separating little lake. It's amazing you keep thinking its fresh water how can this be sea?We were deposited with only just over hour for free time by little lake. Tip take food and provisions there are NO outlets! We ended up walking nearly all the way back to our pick up point and asking waiter from one restaurant if he could make us roll,he was very obliging. Went back to lakes, wish we had more time. In National Park the toilets are how can I describe them natural bit like wooden Porto cabins in UK. There is an amazing phenomena if you swim in little lake and then go through channel, under bridge to big lake it's like a flume in water park.We were disappointed with our organised trip but could not see how we would have improved experience by doing it all ourselves. At end day the one ferry dictates time on day trip. Best advice stay there few days.

Took the boat from Dubrovnik and then made the hike to the top of the hill (235mts). Amazing vue of the lakes and the sea! Went down to the other side , took the small boat to the small island with the monastery. Then went back. A amazing day in spite of the weather.

We spent a couple of days on the island and enjoyed a boat ride to the island monastery. We had lunch at the Monastery which was pretty good too. There wasn't that much to do in the evening where we stayed in Pomena but it was the end of September so maybe it is more lively earlier in the year. There were several restaurants but none were particularly busy so it's difficult to say anything other that that everyone was friendly. I guess you visit Mjlet for the National Park and the crystal clear water and we were not disappointed at all.
