This is one of the reasons for being in Longreach. The town is a long way from anywhere and has severel attractions making it work the trip . The Qantas museum gives you excellent insight into this iconic air service. And to go into the cockpit of a 747 and stand underneath this behemoth is very exciting. Funny stories about the B707 whic was fitted with luxury pig-skin leather seats- intended for a middle eastern sale! Michael Jackson ended buying it.

Great, well presented displays and the 747 tour is not bad either. Good value and a must see in Longreach.

Visited the Qantas Founders Museum 6th February 2015, the staff are fantastic very friendly and helpful. I chose to do the tour and Museum and highly recommend this as you will get a tour guide and a chance to go through two fantastic jets, including sitting at the controls of a Boing 747-200 and a walk and photos on the wing. My tour guide was Sara and had great knowledge of the planes and happy to take as many questions or take as many photos for you as you require. To sum up if you are in Longreach or anywhere near you would be crazy not to go visit the Qantas Founders Museum you will not regret it. AAAAA++++++

The Qantas Founders Museum was one of my husband's bucket list items and so we chose to spend his 65th birthday there. We had a simply wonderful time doing the platinum tour. The young man who served as tour guide on the 8am Sunday 18th January was amazing, with excellent customer service skills and just plain nice! Despite the heat, we did the wing walks (which were a highlight)! We spent 7 hours there and enjoyed it all - don't forget to have a bite to eat at McGuinness restaurant - so good, we went back again for Breakfast. My husband loved being there and wants to come back again (in cooler weather) - Well, worth the cost for the platinum tour!!

My husband made sure that Longreach was on the agenda whilst travelling north. He has been wanting to check out the QANTAS Founder Museum for a long time. It didn't disappoint, although I admit to trepidation when I handed over what seemed like a lot of money for a 'museum'. However, despite not being an avid aviation nut like my ex-pilot husband I would still thoroughly recommend a visit. There is just so much to see, watch and interact with in the museum and the tour was excellent. John our tour guide was enthusiastic, informed and a gracious host. We chose to tour the 747 and 707, and upon hearing that they hope to add a Constellation to their collection my husband immediately updated his bucket list with a return visit, and I can't say I'm adverse to returning. We only had the morning to potter around but you could easily spend the whole day there. The cafe/restaurant is licensed and what we sampled was great. The staff were all very friendly and professional. If it's going to be a hot day I suggest you do the 9:30 tour, the 747 is air-conditioned but the others are not. I would definitely recommend this for families. We plan to bring some of the kids and grandkids back next time if possible.

It was great finding out the history of our nation's airline, lots of interesting stuff. Loved the display of air hostess uniforms over the years.

We did the tour and loved it. The information, presentation and food were all great. All the staff were helpful even though they had to work on the first day of the year.

Fantastic the two sons and I had the full day and still want to go back. The staff were very helpful and not rushed with getting the tour over in a set time.

Qantas museum is an outstanding piece of Australian history! From the early beginnings to today's planes, the museum has it all. Don't allow yourself an hour, allow yourself the day! There is plenty to see and do and learn. There is lots to learn. My youngest had never been on a plane. The excitement in her face when she boarded the aircraft was magnificent. The ability to look inside the many different planes they have there is fantastic. Great for those who are afraid of flying but want to see what it is like to do do...Definitely will be back!!

The early days of QANTAS are fascinatingly told here but the more recent stories are just as interesting , like how they landed a 747 on the very short runway.

I went here with friends, we took a tour of the Boeing 747 and it was quite enjoyable. The actual museum itself was kinda small but still worth. The gift shop was there if someone wants souvenirs. There not that many attractions in Longreach, so have a visit.

This is a must - see if you are in Longreach. We spent the whole day exploring the museum and did a guided tour. The tour was money well spent. Plenty of history as well as heaps of fascinating aviation facts and figures, and we got to look inside retired aircraft on display. The story of Qantas and its founders is inspiring and the museum offers plenty of opportunity to engage in displays in different ways. There were also aspects of aviation presented that I bet most people hadn't even thought about. I certainly hadn't!
