I cannot believe that a trek like this exists in the middle of town. Once we instead took the "Extension" entrance. Basically, if you want to ride a bike, run, jog or take a stroller with you; you'd take the main entrance. The Extension is a bush walk and you need good boots and steady feet for the job. Pretty soon you're watching out for tree roots, stamping in mud and doing lots of up and down hills. But the scenery is spectacular. Who'd even think that this was in the middle of suburbia? Ever present is the sound of the Te Henui stream. Every now and then we got a glimpse of it through the trees. All of a sudden the forrest track comes to another fence crossing and we were on farmland. There was sheep poo everywhere, rabbits and wildlife. We ended up at east end reserve where Paris Plague, a playground and coastal walkway meets up. About 2hrs round trip (not including the hour or so we spent at the playground)

If you like walking and bush, this is for you. The walkway meanders along the river, it is very pretty.

Well done New Plymouth District Council. This walkway is well signposted and joins the Coastal Walkway.

We used this walkway several times and it provides a nice peaceful walking route. The only drawback was part of the route was closed as a new road bridge is being constructed and the detour was up a step climb with loose slippery gravel so you had to take care going up and down this stretch.

Walked down here. A lot of well sign posted Historical places all the way down to the sea. Loved the peaceful walk . What a great place to walk or bike with the kids.

The walkways in New Plymouth cannot be beat by any inner city walk, anywhere. Te Henui is the best of the best. Go off the beaten path to the cemetery. The best view of the mountains is from there. Breathaking.

What a pleasure this track is. I run it regularly with my little 4 year old riding his bike next to me. I also walk it regularly with the twins in the buggy - they love the trees, the water and the birds. What an awesome track in the city.

Well worth doing the whole length of the path because it is beautiful. Like all the other parks, paths and public areas in New Plymouth, it is beautifully maintained and managed making a real pleasure to explore. It should wet your apetite for the other walkways and there are plenty to choose from. No wonder New Plymouth gets such a good score as a "liveable city".

Although it was Winter, this walk is spectacular and loads of flowers, birds and butterflies around.

Good easy walk - we did a portion near the beach leading up to the cemetry which was not very busy only a few people jogging and walking dogs - would be great in spring when Rhodo's etc in flower. Not sure how long this walk is but the little bit we did was certainly worth the effort, and it was reasonably sheltered in the winter weather we had to contend with.

approximately 6km return makes this a great short run or walk or even bike ride.a little muddy in places but after a week of rain what else can you expect. well worth the effort. we will be doing it on a regular basis

First make sure you have one of those freebee town plans from any hotel reception. Easiest starting point is near the bridge over Te Henui stream, near the Petit Paris beach café. Very comfortable stroll, well sign-posted. After the first few hundred meters it is so easy to imagine that the hubbub of town is miles away. In reality, the path leads through a deepish urban ravine much of the way. k

Te Henui walkway follows the river of the same name and links with the Coastal walkway with various other tracks that each have an appeal of their own. Great place to bike, walk (the dog), run etc. Also has a couple or three decent swimming holes along the way.Beautiful in all seasons and now has some new bridges and an under-road pathway to make it more accessible for those that need it.

I live new this walkway, one of several exceptional walkways we have in New Plymouth. This is a great walk, some area's could benefit with new planting. Council have spend a lot of money & time on the tracks and bridges.
