Drake’s Seat is an overlook to the north on Route 40 just to the west of its intersection with Magens Bay Road (Route 33). Legend has it that Sir Francis Drake used this location as a lookout for Spanish ships but is most likely not true. From the lookout, one gets an excellent bird’s eye view of Magens Bay and, on clear days, some of the British Virgin Islands in the distance. While it only takes a few minutes to take in the views, it is worth the stop as it is essentially on the way to Magens Bay and virtually all taxis to Magens Bay or island tours will stop here to provide one with the opportunity to take in the excellent and famous view.

Was a neat little piece of history tucked along the winding mountain road. Loved the view, but the scruffy guy with the scraggly donkey that was charging $20 for a photo could have just skipped it..

Highly recommend stopping at look out on way to Magens Bay. Really worth the stop for photos overlooking Magens.

Make a stop here, but don't plan to spend very long. Super picture-taking opportunity but not much else.

everyone seems to go by this place - you get to see Megan's bay from on top. it is a great view of Peterborg as well.

This concert bench had beautiful views of Megan's Bay, and other parts of the island. Our tour guide gave us some of the history of the area. There was a man with two donkeys dresses up with sunglasses and hats that you could take photos with, but there isn't any reason to stick around. Take a few photos then hop back in the van and head out.

After a week exploring St. Thomas, St. John & the BVIs, I can say that I love these cool overlooks! Great pit stop to take a pic of Magens Bay! I recommend taking the car ferry to St. John & exploring the beaches & island! There are a ton of these overlook vantage points & you get gorgeous pics!!

Theres not much here but a vantage point, id rather be sitting on the beach at Magens bay. Worth it for a few pics but head to the beach after.

A quick stop on our island tour on St Thomas. The views were similar as those to Mountain Top, quick 10-15min stops as there's nothing here but the views and taxi tours.

We drove over to check out Magens Bay, and happened upon the scenic overlook . We arrived Around 1730 and there was only one other car, and no taxis. The views of Magens Bay are fantastic. The overlook is on a curve, so it can be a bit tricky pulling in/out. Might be worth coming late afternoon to avoid the crowds.

if you aren't careful where you park, your little rental car could get boxed in by a couple of big open air taxis - like ours was - we'd taken our photos and has admired the scene, including two iguanas sunning themselves on the bushes below, and we were ready to leave. But we couldn't until the taxis were also ready -so we ended up spending a lot more time at Drake's seat than Drake probably did.

A very interesting piece of St Thomas history. The views from here are simply breathtaking - but beware the donkey man and monkey man who are after money for photos.

An amazing view from this location. The blue seas, Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean, and the Magens Bay, are clearly visible.

which is why we stopped. plenty of vans stopping & taking quick pics, then moving on. it was awesome for the 10yr old traveling with us who currently loves pirates. for us this is a skip next time.

For those you can enjoy this view without the bus loads of tourist, this is one of the best views on St. Thomas: Spectacular Magen's Bay below, Hans Lollick and the British Virgin Islands in the distance. Those with binoculars might catch whales breaching in the spring between Magen's and Hans Lollick. When taking pictures...get your peeps to stand low below the wall so you can get the background....I see too many tourist taking the shot straight out...all you get is blur sky.
