i went there to visit my friends who work at the museo, and to review the display of the DiGirgio-Huart Fruit Company, a banana company that operated from Baracoa and New Orleans fro 1918-the 1950s.

30 minutes is sufficient time to view the museum. The workers are skilled at explaining the history of Baracoa, which is Cuba's oldest continuously inhabited European city.

We walked along the Malecon to the Spanish fortress which houses the museum. The building itself is impressive and you get the feel of the historical importance during the Spanish times .The museum is small with odd collection of artefacts ,Taino skeletons ,shells ,armoury ,dolls and dolls furniture !!Friendly staff .

This small museum is housed inside the old fort, which was part of the town’s fortifications against pirates. Our guide was friends with the owner, Daniel, so we had a personal tour of the museum. The artifacts are minimal and the displays only rudimentary, but we did learn a good bit about the history of Baracoa, the first Spanish colony in Cuba. The exhibits include some of the lore of Baracoa, including the curse placed by an itinerate bearded man that has made Baracoans suspicious of anyone with a beard (Fidel apparently excepted).

You will want to stop by the Malecon and when there go into the fort to get a feel of a Spanish outpost in early settler times. The museum in the fort is worth as few minutes ofr browsing.

This museum is located in a small fort at the end of the Malecon and will detain you for no more than 30mins unless you speak fluent Spanish, but it is a cute, old fashioned and friendly museum and certainly worth a nosy in a town with few real attractions. Pop in, and look over the cannons towards the statue of Colombus.

This fortress is the oldest in Cuba, built by the Spaniards at a very strategic place to protect the city from the pirates. There is another fortress at the port entrance and one on the top of a heel which was a castle and was recently converted to a nice hotel.
