Great snow on four interconnected faces of the mountain with ample lifts. The quantity and speed of lifts meant that there were almost no queues, although the gondola sometimes has a short wait. Skiing is a combination of greens and reds but not too many blacks.

As most review here ! Nothing beat the evening ski here, lift chair operates until 8.30pm, went on end Feb, powder snow is still very consistent especially during 6-8pm !! Highly recommended slope for skiers/snowboarders up tonintermediate level ! A great family slope is available too ! Definitely will come back

Loved the Hilton especially managers John and Mia who went out of their way to ensure we came back and great room service

Have been coming here for the last 9 years, and this will be the last for a few years, unfortunately. Despite the positive development of the hotel, rental, and dining infrastructure in Hirafu, the unfortunate lack of development of the ski facilities (which all are dependent on), is very much lacking. There has been hardly any upgrade of the archaic ski lifts and marginal upgrade of the sole gondola. Regular strong winds result in frequent shutdown of many ski-lifts, resulting in long waiting lines that one spends most of our time stuck at. The proportion of skilled skiers also result in most of the 'off piste' options very much completely exploited and no longer untouched. This time, I resorted to driving 2 out of the 3.5 days I was in the area skiing at the nearby Rutsutsu resort. Not only were the lift passes cheaper, but the options for the advance skier were more plentiful, with less crowds and a much more enjoyable experience. The only plus was the dining options I was familiar within around Hirafu. But that again is steadily dwindling as I discover superb options that may not yet be as foreigner friendly in the other areas.Time to look for a more unspoilt resort to enjoy whilst Niseko goes through its 'growth spurt'.

We (family of three with 18 yo daughter) have just returned from Niseko. It was fantastic. The complimentary buses were crowded but OK - its just a short ride to and from the slopes. No crowds or real waits to get up lifts compared to other countries. We often found ourselves skiing down the slopes in the afternoon and we would be on the only ones of the run - it was gorgeous. And the only loud drinking groups of single, 30 and under, men were not (thank goodness) from Australia. Not that we saw many of these groups anyway. I can confirm it was not really a cultural experience. I did not feel immersed in Japanese culture. That said, the snow was just so good - some icy bits - but overall fantastic. I wonder if it is because we have travelled toward the end of peak season that our experience was different?

I had a great experience skiing Niseko in January for four days with my adult daughter. Village of Hirafu has a great layout, with easy access to lifts and very good choices for lodging and dining. I had an excellent experience with Ski Japan arranging my airport transfers and lodging and lift passes and rental and restaurant reservations, they really made the visit effortless and pleasant. I went for the cultural experience, which describes a lot of my motivation for skiing, in New England, Rockies, Europe, Quebec. It turns out that Hokkaido / Niseko is a legitimate powder hound destination, with the result that even if you are more of a trail skier (me), you can go into the deeps, or stay on some of the springiest, freshest packed powder trails you will come across, really lovely. And on the cultural side, fabulous. A lovely Australian ski resort located in Japan, the best of both worlds. Who doesn't like Australians?!?! They are super friendly and pleasant to be around. OK, OK, Hanging out in Niseko for Australia week is only for those in search of a high impact experience. Also plenty of Japanese culture available, and you can toggle between spots that appeal to Australians and Japanese, which is great fun. You can also combo Niseko with other Japanese spots to balance out your experience, we also visited Kyoto and Tokyo. A really wonderful experience that I will long remember.

So many people! On the mornings there are so many people trying to get up in the lift system. The buses are over-crowded so do not take the free shuttle buses.

What a shame, the mountain and snow are still fantastic but unfortunately that is where it ends. I have been going to Niseko for over 15 years but have and enough of the groups of Aussies big noting themselves and I am a proud Aussie myself. no wonder you hardly see a local on the mountain. Want a tip, try the smaller resorts on either Island and rediscover the magic of skiing with the Japanese.

The resort is now so overrun with very badly behaved young Australians I am not sure I will return on our next ski trip to Japan. After Australia Day there was a considerable amount of rubbish, empty bottles and plastic beer cups, discarded around the village including in the bus shelter. Much of this rubbish disappears from sight each night with the snow falls but it leaves a considerable burden for locals to clean up after the season when the snow melts and all the tourists have gone home. All the ski shops are Australian concerns; Rhythm, Larry Adler, Inski, Harro and Beats, they relocate to Niseko each year and take their Aussie staff with them. I understand the business decisions that allow them to get 2 seasons from their stock, but it also serves to made the resort seem like just another Aussie resort. This year I noticed a lot of pushing in while waiting in lift lines. There is no need for this a little bit of patience and politeness is all that is needed. The snow will not melt while waiting for the lift. During a visit to the private onsen in the Price Hotel there were empty beer cans left behind. Drinking beer in the onsen is so disrespectful, but to leave the empty cans inside is totally unacceptable. This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in an onsen, or anywhere really.I am afraid that the excellent snow conditions and popularity with Australians has made Niseko a victim of it's own success. I am seriously rethinking whether to ski in Niseko again.

snow,Japanese traditional onsen, foods, hotel, local people... everything is great. I'm sure you could have wonderful days.
