A big and old temple. We ent for the ritual bath wich takes approximately one hour depending on the crowd. The whole path was very wet and slippery. Absolutely no crowd management. We went for the darshan after this and there were long queues as it was special hidu calender month. The thousand pillar walk way is very beautiful. The temple is very big and requires atleast about an hour to go around and see.

Very huge yet peaceful temple. I liked the pooja vidhi of taking bath from 22 holy wells. Must visit place if you are visiting Rameshwaram.

I liked it all ! Very ancient Temple, were rituals are taking place everyday. Has 21 wells inside the temple. the guide would bring up the water with a bucket at every well & pour over to purify one. It's an amazing experience! Each water from the well is different in taste, texture and it's consistency!! It's a one time experience . Spiritual place!!

As you enter the temple you would see more than 600 massive pillars build at ancient age, all of it aligned to perfection. Its really amazing to see such a wonderful construction which is build ages ago. Unfortunately you are not allowed to carry any mobile or camera inside.

With intense planning we could travel approx 4500 kms in 72 hrs to complete a pilgrimage from Delhi and back. Took an early morning flight to Chennai and from there a connecting flight to Madurai.Hired a c cab for onward journey to Rameshwaram and en route was totally bowled over by the beautiful Meenakshi temple, where we spent almost 2 hrs.In almost 3.5 hrs we reached Rameshwaram and checked into Daiwik hotel, pre-booked.Hotel accepts late check in and check out and the staff is truely amazing. We could manage to get a panditji in the Hotel compound who organised the temple visit for 8:00 AM, next day. Took an auto and few dry clothes for our amazing temple tour.First took a dip into the sea and then went around 22 well bath, which as the history goes is realted to a puja or penance by Lord Ram for having killed a Brahmin, Ravan. Each well has its significance and leaves you free of all negativities. Now you are taken through the longest temple corridor for Darshan of three shiv lings, two brought by Hanuman jj from Kashi and one made by Sita ji of sand. You have to shell out a little extra for close Shiv ling darshan, but it's worth the money spent. There is a separate place to changing into dry clothes before puja, Govt needs to work on this.It is advisable to take a panditji who is your guide too, the amount is negotiable. The entire temple tour takes 2-2.5 hrs and is truely amazing. Unfortunately cameras are not allowed inside the temple. You have to capture all with your eyes. The same day afternoon we took a 4 wheel vehicle to Dhanushkodi - the ghost town.A place you cannot miss from here you see a stretch of land going to Sri lanka. On one side is the calm Bay of Bengal and on the other side is a turbulent Indian Ocean.A last dip into Bay of Bengal completes your Pilgrimage.Since, it's a desolate island take a day trip which is generally completed in 3 hrs. Same day we booked a train from Rameshwaram - Chennai Express and reached Chennai at 6:30 AM and took a flight back home( Delhi) .With this we could complete a historic temple tour in 2.5 days.

My elderly mother a companion and I visited in Feb 2015 for a day engaged a guide for the 22 wells and darshan of the dieties. Ended up paying almost Rs.3000 for a special darshan which was too much. Please negotiate prices ahead of time. The experience was certainly great but I was able to get a great darshan later in the day in the free line.

Went with family in the month of December as a pilgrimage trip. Its a must visit Hindu pilgrimage. The 22 well bath practice followed here is considered very holy and it is believed to take away our negativeness and sins.As a tourist , the old and Grand architecture of the temple with 1000 pillars left me astonished,!!!!

The temple is huge and has rich heritage, as soon as I entered the temple with my family the feeling within was different. Although I had to stand for about 2 1/2 hours in queue but it is worth. My advise for the tourist/pilgrims who do not want to take bath in those holy wells is to visit temple in evening, Infact when we visited the temple same day in the evening there was little queue and we got Darshan within 10 minutes of standing in general queue.

My purpose of visit was to get an experience on one of the practices being followed which is taking shower from 22 wells inside the temple. This was good. There are changing rooms inside the temple too but do not expect it to be very clean. Apart from this the corridors of temple are painted well and are colorful (like Madurai but to a smaller scale). Few sections of temple are not allowed for non-hindus so this might need to be considered before planning to visit. It is not recommended to go for any brokers/agents who ask you to buy special tickets via them and if information needed better to contact the security staff who could be found easily outside and in the temple as well and are quite co-operative. There is Agni Theertham (a beach just outside the temple) but not clean and be prepared to see cattle around. Tablets, mobile phones, cameras are not allowed inside the temple but there is a locker room available outside the temple few yards away at a walkable distance. I would recommend this to who are either religious followers or who are interested in Hindu temples.

It is a hindu pilgrimage place.... Forms part of the 4 dham.... As a tourist there isnt much though....

This is one of those temples you have to visit, if you want to see the real Hindu culture. Take your time and just observe the thousands of devoted pilgrims doing there thing. Lots of areas in he temple are forbidden for non Hindus, especially more then half of the baths.

The temple is very big, like all temples in Tamilnadu. Walking around in the temple is difficult as the floor is slippery. It has numerous ghats where people take holy bath. These are located in all directions within the temple premises, people in wet clothes will be going from one ghat to another. One can get good darshan of the deity as a ramp is there. Do not miss Hanuman temple at the east entrance!

The Ramanthaswamy temple is known for its mythological stature. But the management is poor in administering the temple. They even use acetone to clean up the granite.Vegetable oil soaked pillars and structures are cleansed with Acetone with a board telling that the contractor is UNICEF approved person.sic

amar_dev

the temple premises are not very clean view overflowing of water from the devotees body after taking bath in various kundas. foul smell also has to be tolerated.
