When we were in Selma, we called the office (http://www.selma-al.gov/cemetery/) to locate where one of my relatives grave was located. The staff was so kind and told me if I had a problem he would come over to show me the location.William Rufus King, a Vice President of the US is buried here with an interesting history of being sworn in out of the US and dying less than two months later.

oh, how I wish that I were a photographer when I visit places like Old Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL!The cemetery is easy to find, but be mindful there is a New Live Oak Cemetery in the same area. You can drive through, or park your car and get out and walk around. It is just a beautiful historic cemetery. I love the Spanish Moss in the Live Oaks. It is a very nice place to spend an hour reading tombstones, many of which are very ornate. If you like photography, this is a great spot!

This beautiful cemetery is heavily shaded with moss draped Live Oaks giving it an otherworldly feel. I loved walking among the monuments and reading the tombstones. There is a tribute to Confederate soldiers as well. Beautiful light for photography.

This will only take you a few minutes to drive through. It is picturesque. Easy to find. Just ask for a map outlining the city.

Granted special permission to investigate the Civil War Cemetery after twilight/dark and it was a profound experience that left me and my team sobbing from overwhelming feelings, sounds, and voices from the graves. A must-experience for clairvoyants who are truly respect, value, and exhibit humility in the presence of such an amazing historical site It's not necessarily 'what' you see with your eyes that's incredible--there is a tremendous amount of residual energy and paranormal activity that can best be experienced with eyes closed. Take a good camera and plenty of tissues. If you’re simply grave-kickers looking for excitement, do the dead a favor and do not go.

Old Live Oak Cemetery is a wonderful place to visit if you enjoy strolling under the magnolias and Spanish moss. In the spring it is full of azaleas and other blooming trees. The cemetery dates back to the early 1800's and possbibly before. It is absolutely full of historical monuments including civil war canons and gravestones. If you love history, this one is for you!

My wife and I were returning to Livingston, AL from Montgomery and we decided to stop for lunch in Selma. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed that this place was very close to where we had stopped so we decided to visit after lunch. The cemetery is beautiful with tons of Spanish moss in the trees. This place could be a photographers paradise! We spent probably just over an hour walking and taking photos. We noticed one marker with the D.O.B. of June 22, 1797...Yes 1797! If you have some time to spare and cemeteries don't cheep you out...stop by.

This cemetery contains many prominent local figures including a US vice-president. It is almost like walking into another time when you enter these grounds. Beautiful and haunting the spanish moss hangs from the trees seeming other worldly. Do not miss Confederate circle whch includes a memorial to fallen yankees purchased by the daughters of the confederacy.

Don't miss U.S. Vice President William Rufus King's mausoleum. Currently there is a sign for a $40,000 cash reward in relation to the theft of the bronze bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest which apparently sat atop the nearby stone pedestal. Lots of typical beautiful statuary and mausoleums.

Just a mile or so from downtown Selma. The park is filled with lots of graves of course, but there are beautiful oaks adorned with spanish moss. There is a large confederate dead memorial in the center of the cemetery. There was a bust of Nathan Bedford Forest but it was stolen. Also, there is a marker noting the crypt of Rufus King - Alabama's only vice president under James Buchanan (rumored to have been Buchanan's lover). This is worth a stop if you are in the area.
