a Disney presentation is the orientation for touring this fabulous building. It's history is pretty incredible, and bring your camera for many photo ops. Fabulous to see, tour on your own.....you will be surprised.

Having seen the current Capitol one thinks maybe there is something in the air or water here, given the funky uniqueness of these places

The Old Capitol was worthy of visit too, even though I did not spent much time there. People differ on its architecture, but, in any case, it stands out among the attractions there. Has some exhibits on the state history (and, surely, on Huey Long)

You have got to get a picture of the stain glass ceilings. Great history about Huey Long. It is a must see in Baton Rouge. No charge to go through building and see the history.

Wonderful setting, very beautiful landscape. The building was quaint and full of history. The décor was nice for an old building and history buffs will be delighted

The inside of this building is absolutely beautiful. Don't get me wrong, it's nice on the outside, too, but the outside gives no indication of the beauty hidden inside. There's also a nice museum inside with lots of information on the building's history and an interesting display on former governor Huey Long.

The Old State Capitol is within walking distance of the new state capitol and currently serves as a Museum of Political History with some very good exhibits.Entrance is free and the beautiful staircase alone is worth a look.

The Old State Capitol is one of Baton Rouge's historic gems. When visiting Baton Rouge this building is a must. A wonderful short video presentation acquaints the visitor with the history of the museum. The gift shop is also excellent.

To step into the legislative chamber of the state capital you can sense the breath of Louisiana history. It's a civic lesson. Governor Huey P. Long was gunned down there. And perhaps it's his wandering ghost some people can sense there at night. For real. There's so much history right outside the state capital and certainly inside that it's too long to explain but if you can find the television movie KINGFISH you'd have a good overall education about it before your visit.

The Old State Capitol build is a beautiful structure restored to the 1850's design. The presentation of the political life of Gov. Huey Long is one of the best, showing in detail the good and bad of this famous governor.

We got in town late in the afternoon and walked around downtown. I think the building had officially closed for the day but a door was open so we walked around a few minutes. I don't think there is an admission charge and it is worth dropping into for a few minutes to look around but I don't know if I would make a special trip into downtown just for this. It is well preserved with nice stain glass windows and portraits of past government officials. All of the other nearby attractions were closed.

Not as impressive as the present capitol building but very nice. The outside of the building is attractive and the interior is beautiful with that awesome staircase. A lot of history here and well worth a visit.

This structure is absolutely beautiful! The outer part is mystical and detailed. The inside is breathtaking (look up!) Loved the staircase. So much history. There is also a small gift shop. People are very friendly.

We didn't get to go inside - just walked around the outside but the building and grounds are well kept

Then put this on your list. Absolutely full of facts from our past, and how we became the nation we are. Free, and only takes one hour. Parking may be a problem, but there are a few free spaces, and the meters are a quarter for 30 min
