Would definitely check out the planetarium show. Not too much other exhibits. The Egypt exhibit is interesting.

My daughter loves to go here and when we don't go for a while, she reminds me about it. There is an iMAX theater inside, traveling exhibits, and great play rooms for almost all ages (my spouse and I play too almost every time we go). There's an interactive science room that is super cool!!!!

A few days ago (8/19/14) I went to this museum and I really enjoyed myself. They had 4 exhibits this time, so not really a huge museum, but nice nonetheless. They have a permanent exhibit that is so much fun to check out, a real mummy! They have it set up so that you walk through a tunnel with cold air blowing on you on your way to see him. Though that exhibit is nice, my favorite was the "tell your story" area. There were 3 paintings and a book with pencils encouraging you to tell everyone your story. I didn't leave one, but reading the book was very interesting. There were people from all over the country, the world even. The cut glass exhibit was also just so beautiful. I also recommend getting the planetarium ticket as well. It's about 40 minutes long and they have quite a few different shows during the day.

We went to see the special exhibit of American Brilliant Cut glass which was amazing. This exhibit of silver mounted pieces were among the largest I have ever seen, cut to perfection, and most cased and cut to clear. There was an educational video that accompanied the exhibit. We saw a little of the other exhibits and were not impressed.

We traveled to Baton Rouge to see the American Brilliant Period Cut Glass display. This display included some of the largest pieces of cut glass I have ever seen, and most were adorned with sterling silver. Also included in the display was a vintage movie of artisans actually cutting a piece of glass. The pieces came from local collectors and was simply outstanding. We also visited the Egyptian section, complete with a mummy ! Very educatonal.

An " O.K." attraction..but better for children. There was not much open on a Sunday afternoon, so this was something to do.

This is a great place to have a birthday party, bring your children for weekend fun, host a learn night, or just come and explore on your own. The staff cateres to your age groups needs.

Visited on the first Sunday of the month, so it was free. Looked like a lot of kid oriented stuff. Large exhibit of fashion things from Project Runway lead by a Louisiana resident designer that had been on the show. Interesting Egyptian exhibit. Planetarium part was a bit run down.

This museum was interesting with some history of Louisiana art. It is a nice way to spend a few hours. Bonus is that it is free.

I came to LASM for the first time ever today and it will definitely be our last. We were in downtown Baton Rouge for a family Sunday afternoon and had planned to see the dinosaur show at 1:00. Since this was the first show of the day we bought tickets at the station in the main lobby. The lady was talking to a fellow employee and never even acknowledged us for the first 5 min. Eventually we bought tickets and were told to go upstairs for the show. After waiting until 1:20 (my family wasted 35 min since we arrived 15 min prior), we were told that we could either see the next show at two (which was about modern electronics) or get a refund since they were having technical difficulties with the film we paid for. I have a 5 and a 7 year old and they have no interest in the modern electronics show, so we opted to get a refund and try to enjoy the rest of the day although the kids were still very upset and disappointed. My husband went to the front desk booth to obtain the refund while we were in the children’s exhibit. He was humiliated by the same front desk people that initially was rude to us upon arriving. The girl even said that the refund wasn’t going through on our “card”, as if our visa debit was not good. (Yes, the same visa debit card that we used to buy the tickets)lol. She deliberately tried to force a rain check on us and asked again if we wanted to see the other show playing. Again, my husband, humiliated that he was, asked for her to please try to swipe it again and it miraculously went through. I was so beyond flabbergasted at the way my husband and I were treated, I will never again return. What turned out from the morning at the state capitol; ended horribly at the LASM. I did not let it ruin out day, however... I will never again return. Word of advice; make sure employees do not snicker or snoot in front of customers. Another word-keep all personal iPhone devices away from workers. Almost every exhibit had an employee playing on there iPhone while markers and glue are drying out to waste and people were asking questions amongst each other while the employee was sitting on the Egyptian steps messaging friends.

This place is nice. Gives you history lessons and shows you artifacts. But what this place really needs is NEW EXHIBITS. I have been coming here for YEARS, and it's the same stuff over and over. The planetarium is amazing, too, but they show the same stuff over and over. They really do need a boost. Overall though, this place is fun and there are lots of activities for children and teens.

located right near the USS Kidd, old State Capitol, and the downtown river walk complex. This a great place to add to your agenda. Park once and you can spend as much time as you like touring several facilities all with a very short walking distance.

There was a lot of things you could not take photo's of ? Could not say it was good of bad. I was not impressed and would not go back. Nothing special here.

Since we were downtown on the first Sunday afternoon, we stopped to check out the Louisiana Art and Science Museum. We were glad that admission was free that day. Maybe we should have paid the small fee to see the planetarium -- we might have been more impressed. The exhibits seemed few, and since we skipped the child-centered activity areas, it didn't take long to visit. Leaving the art and science museum, we enjoyed a walk out on a modern pier and then down to the USS Kidd and the Veteran's Memorial.

My son and his family, including two pre-schoolers, and I visited the museum for the afternoon and were impressed with the hands-on children's section. The displays and interactive activities were not only entertaining but also genuinely educational which not all child-oriented museums are, in my opinion. We also had tickets for one of the planetarium shows and the two kids were mesmerized!
