Lake Malone SP is starting to show it's age, however, the great staff are doing what they can to make the visitor's stay wonderful. Our 3 day stay was a very positive experience and we looking forward to going back when it gets a little cooler. The staff were very friendly and helpful - nice work, thanks!

We decided to make weekend plans to go camping. We set our sites on the only local campground in our county. That being Lake Malone State Park. We called the number on the state website several times with no answer. We wanted to make sure we could indeed stay before making a drive. With no answer or knowledge of how to stay, we packed up and drove there anyway. Upon arriving, we found it very difficult to find how to pay for our campground location. The building with where it seemed we were supposed to, was locked and nobody there. After finally getting it figured out, we were off to our spot. A man, working for the park, soon showed up in a golf cart and seemed to lecture us on numerous things. This was very strange and uneasy, he talked to us like we had already done something wrong even before our stay. This would go on to ruin our night. We couldn't stop talking and thinking bout this guy.Overall, The whole park lacked upkeep on every position. The fields needed mowing, the staff nowhere around, and all information such as signs and printed info were not available. Maybe lack of funding, or something else, im not sure. Also, the actual Lake is nowhere near the campground. If you want to fish, sight-see, etc...you will have to drive away from the campground. The best pro would have to be the price, by far the cheapest around per night anymore. Restrooms, first aid, and playground for kids are close by.The cons are a big part of this trip. As mentioned, outdated, no lake close, and no staff available. Also, they seemed to of had a community yard sell/Flea Market on the site on Sat. This made for alot of traffic and noise....not really what anyone looks for while camping outdoorsAll in all, next time we have decided not to stay here again. We will look at other options and even drive a little further no a better location. , .

My husband and I just went to Lake Malone this past weekend! WOW- All I an say is that Amanda, went above and beyond to help us. My husband had to work late on Friday, so we didn't arrive until 11:00-11:30 pm, it was raining so hard, that we couldn't hardly see. As we were riding around trying to find out slot, a young lady walked out into the rain. Amanda introduced herself and guided us to our slot. She was soaked! I don't think that most employees would do this at any other places that we have been. Amanda kept the bath house so clean, no dirt, everything you would need was there. I observed her cleaning the areas three times. On Saturday, we ventured out, it was Beautiful, Clean and Amanda was there to assist us with questions, directions and anything that we may have forgotten! We walked some of the trails, even found ourselves swinging on the swings, they have a large park area. Everyone has their own picnic table, fire pit, garbage can. Green grass everywhere, the parking are is gravel, (Large parking areas) the layout is spectacular! I hated to leave, we most definitely be going back. As a couple, my husband with his friends, hopefully bring children and grand children sometime.I have been let down at other camping sites, usually there is something that just doesn't make the grade. However, we couldn't find one thing disappointing at Lake Malone State Park, Rv site!

We just returned from a 2 nite camping trip to Lake Malone State Park. I was shocked at the need of repair and upkeep of the entire area. There is no longer a swimming area and the bathouse/boat rental /snack shop boarded up. The grounds needed mowing and sprucing up. That being said, the natural beauty of this park is intact. Gorgeous rock walls, cliffs, trails, the lake itself is a treasure and could be returned to its former self with a little funding and elbow grease. The 1 park employee we saw told us their hours were cut to 15 hours weekly! The locals still support this park, proof being in the campground liscense plates, and boat trailers. Hopefully this area will get the help it needs and deserves.

This was my first time at Lake Malone State Park. We camped for 2 nights. I must say it was a great experience. The campground was clean , people were very friendly and the Staff was great. The bathhouse was clean and well kept. I will be going there more often , Its only 20-30 minutes from home. It was a great get a way for the weekend.

Recently, paid another visit to the State Park and cruised around Lake Malone.A must do is to hike the nature trail-- it takes about 45 minutes --- not to strenuous -- but it takes you along the beautiful shoreline and you see many sheer cliffs. The beach area is roped off --so it is safe for small children. My family loves being able to rent a boat at the nearby Shady Cliff Resort and spend 4 hours on the water viewing all the wonderful natural scenery--- especially when you get on the north end of the Lake near the state park area. The homes are very sparse and wildlife is everywhere- don't be surprised to come across a group of deer drinking along the shoreline.Definately remember to bring a camera!

They day I went was a very busy day. there were people in boats and it was a great place to watch everyone enjoying themselves. Small but exciting.

The park is just down the road from where we live. They have wonderful, family friendly, activities there from time to time. We have been to the antique car/tractor show for the last three years and we have many neighbors who are "Friends of the Park". The park is well kept and everyone is friendly. I highly recommend it.

It's been several years since I've been there. We camped, rented canoes, and had a nice relaxing vacation

A nice smaller lake to visit that is not overrun with crazy people.

Lake Malone State Park is beautiful. We have camped there many times. They have hiking trails, a play area for the kids, and places to swim as well as boat, fish, and tube. It is one of our go to spots in the summer!

A great little state park with ample, wooded tent lots right where deer and fox pass by on their way from woods to field. Friendly staff and, if you get there early or make reservations, a few lots at the end of the camper loop have fantastic lake views on a large, shaded, clean lot. A great weekend get-away, though it gets busy on the holidays, so plan accordingly. Any camping spot on the outside of the main loop is beautiful, shaded, and not to far from the clean restroom. However their is no shade on the camping lots by the playground, but they are ideal, level lots for campers. Overall, a friendly little place where kids and dogs are welcome.

Lake Malone is a gem of a park in the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky. We stayed at the Stewart House right on the lake and it was absolutely lovely. This area of Kentucky is simply breathtaking both in its simplicity and grandeur. The Stewart House has four bedrooms and is beautifully furnished to accommodate guests. Sitting at night out on the deck one can hear the whippoorwills and woodpeckers, and every once in a while a fish will jump out of the water in the gleaming moonlight as the lightning bugs dance and light the way. Lake Malone is a haven for those who like a quiet, out-of-the-way break from the fast lane. Don't miss this gorgeous place!
