My girlfriend, her parents, and I were at the Garrison Golf Club several days before Christmas for a wedding reception that lasted five to six hours. This took place in two large rooms in the same building as the Inn at the Garrison and the Valley Restaurant. The reception was scheduled to start mid-afternoon, but we had to wait a bit until we were let into a large room with live music and an open bar. Floor to ceiling windows here and next door in the dining room offered views of the Hudson River Valley, which other reviewers have called magnificent and spectacular. Perhaps I’m spoiled by California’s natural beauty, but frankly I didn’t find the views here all that interesting. We were served cheese and crackers, as well as two kinds of meat, macaroni & cheese, and cornbread. This was only the third wedding reception I’d been to, and I actually thought this was dinner, since I couldn’t imagine loading up on this food and then eating again an hour later.Well, it actually took two hours before we moved into the large dining room next door, and three before we had much of anything to eat. The dining room has at least 17 or 18 tables, each with place settings for a dozen people, a small dance floor, and room for a band in the corner. The menu included a butternut squash soup, choice of boneless short ribs or salmon, Brussels sprouts, and orzo risotto. The soup was okay, but when we were done it took forever for the entrée to appear, and it turned out to be a bit underwhelming when it did. After the bride & groom finally cut the wedding cake, we again waited quite a long time to get a slice and a cup of coffee.Although I haven’t been to many wedding receptions, even I realized things were a bit odd at this one, with the dinner portion really dragged out and dancing taking place before and during dinner. I’m not sure how much of this was intentional—perhaps the bride & groom wanted it this way?—and how much it was required because they had trouble dealing with this many guests. In any case, the Garrison Golf Club seems like an okay place to have a wedding reception if you need space for 200 or so guests. At least they have the room and seating for that many guests, but I got the impression they couldn’t quite manage to handle that number without it really affecting the pacing of the event.

I went to my cousin's wedding and I liked the views from inside the venue. I also liked the food and the drinks that they served. Nice venue for weddings.

It was the day before Easter, and as all of my fellow college students headed home to celebrate with their families, I headed to the golf course. I was eager to get round #2 of my year underway so I threw my clubs in the Jeep and headed up Route 9. My destination for this particular beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon was the Garrison Golf Club in Garrison, NY. The Garrison Golf Club is a 6,412 yard par 72 that was designed by Dick Wilson in 1961. The course is perched 800 feet above the Hudson River with picturesque views of the river as well as the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY.For my full review and pictures too, visit my blog below!http://twilightteetime.wordpress.com/2014/04/20/garrison-golf-club/

The course was extremely well maintained, especially during fall conditions. Water hazards add a challenging element on several holes. Definitely worth a visit. Even a novice can appreciate the views!

The scenery is amazing, perched above the Hudson river with panoramic views through the mountains. Staff was very friendly and accommodated the requests of the bridal party very well including making a signature drink for the couple. Food was also excellent and the staff was like an orchestrated army. I'm not sure if the band was with the venue but they were also excellent. Highly suggested to make a special day even more special.

All golf courses are beautiful to me, but the Hudson River views from the course add to the experience. On site facilities and public restaurant are a bonus.

Varying and challenging course with phenomenal views of the Hudson River and West Point from a couple of the holes. Generally in great shape, and easily accessible, though out of the way.

We recently had our wedding at the Garrison in July 2012. It was the first wedding venue we viewed and after looking all over the Hudson Valley region, we came back to it because nothing compared. Not only was the view breathtaking, the recent renovations made the property and building look even more beautiful. Even while under construction, we knew this was the perfect site for our wedding. Our event manager, Annie, was organized and presented herself and the Garrison very professionally. She immediately made us feel comfortable and was very responsive to answering any and all of our questions along the way. Our wedding day was carefully planned out and all the details were put into place perfectly. The staff was attentive to our needs and happily helped our guests have an enjoyable time. Thank you, Annie and the Garrison, for making our wedding day truly special!

This is one of my favorite courses in the southern Hudson Valley region of New York. You could say the designer really became "one" with the land when he created this challenging 18 hole course. It is layed out on a ridge leading down to the Hudson River. A golfer will have several views of the river, West Point Military Acadamy and the Catskill Mountains. These are million dollar views folks. The course is open to the public after 12 noon and the rates are very reasonable for a course of this caliber. Each hole is unique. Some of the highlights:1st Hole: Par 4. Watch the Hudson River from the tee box. Don't wiff your drive. Beautiful hole.6th hole: Par 4. Second shot is over a wonderful stream into a tiny green that is set up like the 12th at Augusta.9th & 10th: Say hello to the Hudson again and salute West Point.14th: Par 3 to an island green with a 150 year old church and graveyard as backdrop.18th: Long par 5. Tough finish with more views.Northeast golf is one of a kind. Hills, elevation drops, old trees, stone walls, streams & wildlife. The Garrison represents it all. The grounds are well cared for, the banquet area looks great, the staff are wonderful and the rates are reasonable. If you find yourself in Westchester, Putnam or Dutchess counties in New York, then you really should schedule a round of golf here.

Loved the view!! The wedding was outdoors and overlooked the Hudson River and hills. The catered reception was well done, and the food was excellent. The best part, though, was the view.

We held our wedding here in June 2012. This location sells itself. It has amazing views, beautiful rooms, and great grounds. While the location is beautiful, what really blew us away was the amazing staff. Annie (the event manager) helped us through the entire process, was calm and attentive during the wedding, and genuinely cared about how we were doing. I never felt stressed because I knew that I could count on her. We had a Polish Sri Lankan wedding and the details were really complicated. Annie had a great attitude, was excited for us, and made sure everything went off without a hitch. In addition, the staff were wonderful - they all greeted our guests with smiles and took care of everyone. We're so thankful to The Garrison, Annie, and the staff and would recommend this place to anyone!

The food was typical bar food, but the view is spectacular. Must go on a nice day and sit out on the patio

great views of the Hudson River and West Point Military Academy.

This is a good challenging course - make sure you stop for food when you're through.
