The scenery was breathtaking! Make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle; driving that road after a fresh snow in a car is a little nerve racking!!

Of course during the busy seasons, traffic can be a bit heavy but it's still a great drive with plenty of pull offs and side roads to go exploring.

For cars, motorcycles or bicycles - this is a Colorado MUST. Start the drive early after spending time in RMNP and Estes Park the previous day(s) so you can stop often. After passing Caribou Ranch (recording studio in the day - Dan Fogelberg, Michael Jackson, Eagles, etc.) take a break in Nederland for lunch. Continue along the highway to Blackhawk/Central City (history or gambling) and finally end in Golden (East on US 6) or Idaho Springs (West on I-70) for their respective attractions/accommodations.

This was a beautiful drive and there are no tolls/fees. Saw lots of wildlife along the way and neat places to stop along the way. We traveled in winter and there was lots of snow/ice, but still maintained enough to make it safe. This is a beautiful drive to get away from it all!

We took this beautiful route to Estes and the scenic highway did not disappoint. We did hit some heavy snow during our trek but it just made the drive more beautiful! You pass through a lot of great little towns, we hope to make the trek again so we can stop along the way.

Great drive in good weather, little questionable in snow. Beautiful views and nature with possible wild life sightings.

The road is lightly traveled, giving you ample opportunity to stop and admire some of the finest mountain views in Colorado!

Worth every bit of time in the car and out. Wonderful views around every turn no matter what the weather is like. We took the drive twice, once in cloud/snow/rain and then again on a sunny day. The kids where intrigued with all the wildlife as we got in and out of the car.

Took this drive between Estes Park and Golden - beautiful views around just about every turn (and there are lots of turns - not the right route if you're in a hurry). Made us wish we could live in this amazing part of the country, and grateful for the foresight of those who established parklands for future generations. Passed through a couple of interesting towns as well, but did not stop as we had a timeline to get to Denver.

Take the drive it is worth the trip. We drove most of the route but some of the roads were closed off due to snow.

It's a long road and you can go as long or short a drive. You feel as if you are part of the mountains. You get some magnificent views. Have driven it many times and never tire of it.

Make this drive. Period! It is one of the most scenic drives I have ever been on. This drive will give you a perfect view of all of what you would expect to see in Colorado. From interesting rock formations to pine and aspen covered mountains, I was in awe! The drive only took about 2 hours for us, but could've been much longer had we stopped every 10 minutes to take pictures. So many good spots to take pictures!

This is a designated scenic byway, and deservedly so! What a beautiful, leisurely drive from Rocky Mountain National Park to Central City and Denver. Stop at the marvelous Central City Opera during the summer for some outstanding music in a charming mining town!

We have been driving this road for 50 years ! Vistas from valleys and high shelf roads. You can drive into Wild Basin, a dirt road, into the Rocky Mt. Nat. Park. (Cost to enter the park) Driving through small, simple villages, from the gold mining heyday of Colorado, are fun places to stop & shop. The villages will have public restrooms. There is a road off to a "ghost town" not a difficult drive. Driving places not over run by tourists! Driving along creeks, you can still "pan for gold", perhaps finding a few flakes. Getting over to Central City & Black Hawk, you will find casinos where the old towns have changed. Hotel where the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" had rooms. The Opera House is a historic jem of a building !

Had the opportunity to ride this in winter amid the snows. Mountain views many trees ,big ranches and historic towns, plus a catholic retreat &church where Pope John Paul stayed. Very few cars.Experience nature and quiet. Extra bonus cell phones don't work for most of the drive.Enjoy.
