A wonderful and informative museum. Learned quite a bit about Asian and Judiac history. The Holocaust museum was poignant and the personal stories were moving. Definitely worthwhile visit.

Small museum of Asian & Judaic Arts.-Asian: nice collection of Asian muppets and some nice Asian pieces (Jade carvings…)-Judaic: a very interesting "Holocaust Memorial Gallery", with portraits and testimonials from the “Living On” exhibit. (touching).Consider 1h - 1h30.

We had delightful visit to this small, unique museum. From the magnificent ivory carvings and embroideries to the substantial bronze reliefs that brought images to life and the whimsical paintings, there was something for everyone. The Holocaust memory project gallery was an emotional meeting with real people and their stories of lose and survival.A must see stop for a quiet but meaningful Memphis moment.

This is a definite for your itinerary if you love treasures and unique art pieces. They have a fabulous collection of jade carvings that are unbelievable. The pieces are all so unique and I have never seen anything quite like this gallery. Very cool for anyone that enjoys art of all kinds.

I spent all afternoon in here. I enjoyed everything so much. Really world class. The amount of detail in the carving is amazing. Beautiful stuff. The gift shop is also tempting. I consider this a must do in Memphis.

When Memphis is mentioned, Jewish/Asian art is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, this awesome museum, located right downtown was a true mind expanding experience, and perfect for a rainy day. My wife is Jewish and loves oriental art, so it was a perfect trade off with her for my Sun Studio excursion. And, I was not at all bored by it, either... Like a Chick Flick with car chases.

I've lived in memphis my whole life and never knew about this little treasure. More of a gallery than a museum but it was magical. The intricate jade carvings were unlike anything I've ever seen. VERY affordable! Plan about an hour to two. Very reasonable gift shop and cute, friendly staff. Do yourself a favor-visit!

Teachers are free! I accompanied a group of 23 middle grade students and two teachers to the museum today. The information was very engaging for everyone. The tour lasted about an hour and ended with a museum scavenger hunt that reviewed the highlights of the tour. The teacher was able to take the scavenger hunt sheets back to school for a grade. The guide informed me that the museum can handle 75 students at a time with advance notice. The student fee was only $3.00. There is a small but student friendly gift shop. I highly recommend this tour for home-schoolers and smaller class sizes. We didn't tour the Judaic section of the museum, but the guide informed me that 1 hour tours are available for that as well. It features some items from the Holocaust making it a perfect pairing for those students reading related novels and/or texts about Judaic culture. A teacher friend and I are going back over Christmas to tour the collection again at our leisure. This is a must see for visitors and Memphians alike. The quality of the collection is like nothing I have ever seen. There are plenty of restaurants beside the museum, but for field trips they have a $12 deal for a boxed lunch from a local Chinese restaurant and the admission. Tip: Check out the website for special activities around the Chinese New Year in 2015!

I'd give this 10 stars if I could. It was astounding. I've traveled extensively and have seen great museums around the world, but I have never seen such an impressive a collection of Asian art. One of the things that greets you as you start into the museum is a full-sized, exquisitely detailed and ornamented horse and carriage -- made out of solid jade! I've never seen anything like it - ever! I think what impressed me the most was the size of some of the pieces. I've seen lots of ivory and bone carvings, for example, but they had 2 carvings that were taller than my head and took 10 years to complete. The intricacy and detail was beyond belief. Thinking of the incredible sizes of some of the pieces and the craftsmanship and time involved in creating each one was mind-boggling. The variety was also astounding - rooms full of intricately carved furniture, beautifully colored and decorated puppets, boats made of jade or bone that were five or six feet long, delicate little bird cages and teapots ... I can't begin describe it. Also, and seemingly unrelated except that this is a private collection and Mr. Belz is Jewish, is the huge and astoundingly beautiful collection of Jewish art. Again, I've never seen anything like it. Paintings; huge, beautiful tablets of bronze; beautiful ornate pieces of silver and silver relating to Jewish religion and history. This is a world-class museum that you'd expect to see in a place like New York City or London or Amsterdam - not a smaller city like Memphis, TN. The museum space is comparatively small, all on one floor, but we still spent 5 hours here. The girl at the ticket counter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the collection, and informative. If you like beautiful things and appreciate fine craftsmanship and artistry - you MUST plan a visit here.

Our son's wedding pictures are to die for. The staff even helped tear down the decorations. No one in their wildest dreams thought of this place for a wedding reception in our arena of friends. People are still talking about it. Just go for the tour!!

The museum is oddly located off of main st and tucked into the basement at Peabody place. The collection is much larger than I expected and each and every piece was enjoyable. The craftsmanship portrayed in the ivory and jade work are magnificent.
