Our Navajo guild was most kind, informative, and told several stories of Monument Valley, its history, narrative, views, and her recent trip to Japan which she enjoyed but was somewhat of a cultural shock.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your tour! We strive to make a "Sandstone Tour" more than just a drive through Monument Valley and take pride in sharing our Navajo culture, land and history. Thank you for your business and for taking the time to leave a review detailing your experience.

Our apologies if you experienced a problem with your tour. We are not certain where the disconnect may have been on this tour and if you are able to provide us information on your tour (guide's name/tour date/truck type) at admin@sandstonetours.com, we would be committed to discovering the nature of the issue and ensuring that any potential and/or necessary improvements will be made to our processes. We can say that to date, we only employ Navajo guides, each of whom have many years experience and only employ one permanent female guide, who was born and raised in Monument Valley and has over 10 years of tour guide experience. We strive to engage our visitors and share the general Navajo experience.

This tour had decent ratings and was up to $20. cheaper per person than other tour companies. We opted for the mid-range tour of 2.5 hours. This not only takes us on the 17 mile scenic dirt road that is open to the public, but also along some back roads that only the touring companies are allowed. I would highly suggest you opt for a tour and let the "experts" do the driving for you. This Monument Valley 17 mile scenic dirt road is VERY rough. We were bounced around in our seats and would not want to put our own vehicle through this terrain. Of course, if you've got an ATV or a 4 wheel drive that can handle it, then go for it. There were a couple of times that we thought we may not make it up the sandy slope. We ended up being almost 1/2 hour late arriving to the tour because of an unexpected homecoming parade in town, with no side streets to detour to. I called to say we would be late and they were great. They would put us on on another tour when we got there. We waited about 7 minutes for our tour guide to arrive. Even though we paid for a Sandstone Tour, we ended up on a Black's tour. So maybe they all work together. Our tour guide was Ferguson. Sweet young man, but not real outgoing. Other reviewers have raved about their tour guide. We sort of had to drag info out of him. Eventually he talked more. He spoke of how he learned about the history of this area from his Grandmother and related some stories. I think we could have had a better guide, but Ferguson was ok.Definitely worth the money and avoid the wear and tear on your own vehicle on this very rough, rocky not maintained dirt road.Overall, this was an enjoyable, fun and interesting tour.

We took the Sandstone extended 4-hour photo tour October 8, 2013 and it was worth every penny. Our Navajo guide Frank was an expert on the creative photography - the sites locations, photo angles, sunlight, etc. He was accommodating and knowledgeable without being overbearing. We set the pace. Frank volunteered the formation names and described their history and importance to the Navajos. When asked, he told us the names of the local plants and their historic uses as foods and dyes. We are already looking forward to next year and a tour of Mystery Valley and we will defiantly book with Sandstone Tours.Words of caution: All open vehicle tours are dusty by nature. It’s worse on windy days. Take something to wrap around your camera (and your mouth and nose if needed). We toured on a beautiful sunny and relatively windless day. The following day was overcast and windy and the formations were drab and obscured by dust.

My husband and I requested a sunrise tour the weekend after Thanksgiving. It turned out that we were the only people on the tour. We were given the option of taking an open air vehicle or an enclosed heated vehicle. We were very happy to have chosen the heated vehicle because it was extremely cold that morning. Our guide was extremely accommodating to any request we made, and never rushed us when I was taking longer at certain spots taking photos. He shared interesting information about the history of each rock formation and answered my many questions about different features. He also suggested a great spot for sunrise. Wish I had gotten his name, he was very good without being overbearing. The woman who made my reservation over the phone was also very friendly and easy to work with. I would absolutely use this company again.

We just came back from a trip out west and we took a 6 hour tour of both Monument Valley and Mystery Valley. Sandstone Tours was an excellent choice as they treated us to great views of the valley and even though we chose the long tour, there were so many beautiful sights to see the time just flew by! It was an unexpected surprise to see so many unique and marvelous formations, especially the deep corners of the valley. Our tour guide, Cecil, was friendly and professional and gave us so much insight into the history and culture of the area. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. Before our tour, we decided to see if we could change our reservation to the following day, then on the day of the tour we ended up running late so we called to ask if they would wait for us, and in both cases, the staff was friendly and accommodating in assuring us that they would have a guide and truck waiting for us. I would definitely recommend Sandstone tours if you are thinking of taking a trip to Monument Valley!

I thought our guide, Cecil Smith, was simply outstanding. He spoke to us from his heart and related Navajo lore and history to us in a very understandable manner. We appreciated him greatly.

Hervorragende Tour. Jederzeit wieder!!!
