Millicent Rogers was one of the young eastern socialites that gave up the high life of New York to come to Taos and study its many cultures and mysteries. In doing so, she amassed a huge collection of artifacts and art from the local native populations as well as the Spanish settlers. The museum has grown through the years, which only adds to the need to spend half a day wandering the collections. Its a bit out of town, and can be hard to find - which is part of Taos' charm, but worth the effort. When you are out this far, do take a moment to drive out to the Rio Grande Gorge bridge, an engineering marvel build while I lived in Taos in the 1960s.

This museum is well worth a visit as an insight into Southwestern Art. Although the jewelry is the focal point of the exhibit, I enjoyed the pottery more.It was nice to see historic blankets with Southwestern designs to show authenticity, after similar designs have been hijacked by bars and restaurants.

Such a great museum! Millicent Rogers was a collector of so many fine things: pottery, baskets, rugs, and art, especially paintings of the Taos Pueblo. And her jewelry collection was fabulous and extensive. A highlight for me.

The jewelry and art are awesome. I have wanted to see this museum for the last few years after I read a book about her. But, the museum is not in her house. Reportedly, her oldest son still lives there, but another couple donated this house for her museum. Still, this is a must see in Taos!

So glad we toured this gem! It offers an amazing private collection highlighting some of New Mexicos best works. The turquoise collection is extensive and there are many impressive paintings Native weaving and pottery pieces. The Maria Martinez pottery and other ceramics of the region was perhaps most impressive to us. Plan on 1-2 hours.

This a very intimate museum where you can view one persons collection. It is beautifully laid out and the audio tour is excellent.

We wanted to see the Fred Harvey exhibit before it closes on January 31, 2015. The exhibit included many items from both Fred Harvey's personal estate and from the company that bore his name. The story of how his vision for a string of restaurants and hotels along the railroad from Kansas City, through New Mexico, to California is described in just enough detail so as to not overwhelm the visitor. The remainder of the museum contains a collection of very beautiful jewelry, handmade rugs, baskets, and pottery made by Native Americans. The museum also contains an impressive collection of works done by famed potter Maria Martinez.

This is a wonderful treasure of a museum. The silver and turquoise jewelry owned by Ms. Rogers is truly amazing. The work is outstanding. One of the other amazing exhibits is the collection of religious art. I loved seeing the work of Maria Martinez, an outstanding and gifted potter whose work is sought-after and beautiful.

Outstanding collection of local and native art, pottery, jewelry plus a rotating collection/exhibit space. Hidden gem of Taos.

The Millicent Rogers Museum has many rooms that display local Pueblo and Navajo art. The mediums are Watercolour, oil, pastel, textiles, clay, stone, silver, etc. so paintings to rugs to pottery to jewelry, and facts to go with most pieces. This museum is a favorite for many, me included.

Millicent Rogers collected a lot of indigenous art. Her collection is amazing, and of course worth the time to peruse the museum. She wrote a letter to her children that is displayed towards the end of the museum just before the museum shop. You may enjoy reading it. She was really quite a woman.
