I had the opportunity to see Smokey the Bear when he lived in the National Zoo in Washington DC many years ago, So visiting here was just perfect. The history of Smokey the Bear and surrounding area was well presented in the historical park. Outside was a walkway which took you to Smokey's resting place. It is just fitting that he be buried in the town where he was found. We were there in the winter so we were unable to see all the local plants blooming. They have an area for children to play as well as an outdoor amphitheater that is used for educational programs. If you are in the area, especially with children I highly recommend this as a place to visit

This was a surprisingly stirring experience...A museum documenting Smokeys life story, his tragic beginnings and his long running public service campaign on forest fire prevention (well meaning in its time) , a beautiful little park with his gravesite, and a log cabin of memorabilia......an educational, emotional, and beautifully commemoration!

My wife and I stumbled upon this park in our driving around New Mexico. Until then, we hadn't realized Smokey had a real-life manifestation. We checked out the shop and strolled back to the grave site. Very interesting.

This is a very nice park. On the west end is a small log cabin that has some memorabilia, and it serves as the gift shop. On the east end of the park is a nicely set up museum. Displays are about Smokey's life, as well as Forest Fire ecology and management. In the park, there is a boardwalk trail that goes to a small pond, as well as Smokey's grave. Nice place to visit.

You have probably heard of "Smokey Bear" most of your life and thought he was a fictional character. He really lived and is buried here. Take a picture of his gravesite and show your friends.

We were on our way to Roswell and stopped here for a quick visit. This is not a very big museum, but was interesting to walk through. I wish the movie had given more of a history of Smokey the Bear. Overall worth a look.

We are Smokey Bear fans from England and it was great to visit the park and hear the whole story about him and see all the exhibits.Took my first ever selfie with the lovely Smokey model!!

We recently visited the Smokey Bear Historical Park with our toddlers. Though they're still too young to really understand the exhibits, they were still interested in this small museum that features memorabilia from all eras of Smokey Bear's history as well as easily understood info about forest fires. The interior exhibits might take up to an hour for adults to fully experience; we didn't last that long before heading outside. The Park has a lovely outdoor area with plants and trees labeled. There's a fun playground with swings and lots of things to climb on adjacent to the natural area, making a good distraction for kids.

Took about a hour to view the video and walk through the park. The grounds were well taken care of and clean. The lady working at the desk was very helpful and nice.

It was great to visit a site dedicated to the fifties-sixties icon Smokey the Bear. They had some great memorabilia including some Junior Forest Ranger bling. My only reservation is that the State of New Mexico has been negligent on the upkeep of the park, which is the case across the country with many of our state and national parks/monuments.

Smokey was one lucky cub to get picked up & healed by the forest service. He was respectfully buried on these grounds. The natural flora & fauna of southern New Mexico is different from other places I ever lived. So we enjoyed the grounds with nice descriptive tags.I got a little Smokey doll I couldn't resist. It was at the main desk. Somehow I missed the gift shop.

Since I was a child, I had always heard about Smokey the Bear. This is well worth your time (one hour) to watch the video, walk thru the museum and grounds and see Smokey's grave. The lady at the gift shop was most informative.

The hostess was rearranging something when I was there and never got the movie turned on that explains the exhibit. Very simple hands on things for children and some good fire prevention info for adults.

We were on our way to White Sands NM from ABQ, NM and made a side trip to Capitan, NM to visit the Smokey Bear State Park. There is ample street park available. The adjacent Smokey Bear Museum and Gift Shop can be accessed from this property through a "one-way-only" turnstile, so make sure you get your hand stamped if you want to re-enter tne state park. The highlight of the visit was having a photo of us taken next to a "life-size" Smokey Bear statue. The facility was very clean and well organized - a tribute to the NM state parks department. A walk to Smokey's grave outdoors reveals plenty of labeled native NM trees, shrubs and perennials.
