If you are on the island of Lana'i, you must visit Lopa! It's by far one of the best isolated and pristine beaches on the island. I have many fond memories of this place and miss living here. The waves here can get a little choppy. Not always the best for snorkeling but fishing and body boarding are a must! Bring firewood, make a fire, bring some food to cook over the fire. You can even camp here overnight if you'd like. Bring lots of water, change of clothes, a towel and your favorite book. You're gonna love it here.

What could be better than going to a quiet beach, being served smoothies as we read, and then snorkeling to cool off? Awesome

Can you imagine being on the most beautiful beach in the world with no one else around? This is it. Your views will be of the island of Maui and Molakai with whales breeching in the channel. You will need to rent a jeep to get there and will enjoy other interesting and historic sites on the way to Lopa beach

chances are that you will have this place all to yourselves. There are a few picnic tables, plenty of shade, if you want it. Soft sand and you can wander endlessles along the shore or simply soak up the sun

It was a cute little beach with a lot of folks set up enjoying the beach. Fodors recommended no swimming, but we saw folks having fun in the water. We parked under a tree (lots of shade there) and ate our picnic lunch. There are porta potties there if needed.

gorgeous stretch of natural beach, including ancient Hawaiian fish pond. No amenities, no services, no crowds and no trash. Perfect

I liked the 4 wheel drive to this deserted beach. My family found it to be kind of creepy, so we continued down the road about another couple miles, and found another deserted beach that looked like it was out of a Tom Hanks movie. We had a picnic, but the water looked a bit too rough, so we did not swim.

Lopa is approximately the site of the former "Club Lanai" - a tourist attraction that brought visitors over by boat from Maui to spend a day at a remote beach area on Lanai. The "club" has been closed for many years and all that remains are a variety of run down buildings and a wooden pier that is in very good condition (it has a great view and is a nice place to spot turtles from). As of early November 2012 the Club Lanai area was being cleared of brush and debris. The buildings may have been torn down by now. There is some talk around town that this area might be developed into a golf course and resort by the new owner of the island. There are several historical sites worth checking out in the Lopa area. Just before you get to Club Lanai (which is on the left side of the road between the road and the beach) there is a monument/shrine to Japanese workers from back when there was a plantation in this area. Look for it on the right side of the road - it's easily visible. Just before getting to the shrine you can see the remains of a stone walled church (also on the right) called Kahalepalaoa that until recently could not be seen from the road. The area around it has recently been cleared and the church ruins are now easily visible by taking a short stroll from the road. As you head towards the church you can also take a short path to the right that leads to the remains of a small train that was used for transportation back in the plantation days. There are very good signs posted explaining the history of both the church and the train. These are must-see sights for anyone interested in learning about Lanai's history. The road to Loha and Naha is in good condition, especially with all the work being done at Club Lanai that requires good access. It's a lot smoother than in previous times but there are two or three areas with loose sand to be careful of - definitely a good idea to have 4WD. One some days it is possible to see plenty of deer along the road as well as turkeys.

We hit Lopa Beach in the afternoon and enjoyed resting in the shade of the trees that line the beach. We had the whole place to ourselves, and watched a few turtles feeding as the tide came in. Access is on a dirt/sand road and there are no facilities once you leave Lana'i City.

Went surfing with the family at Lopa Beach. Great beach safe. Recommend a surf guide to pick you up. He brings boards, rash guards and foot booties. Kids had a blast.
