From the name of this easy 0.5 mile (0.8k) trail, we expected a short walk through a wasteland of volcanic destruction so when we arrived and found that nature had done a fairly good job of recovering from Mount Lassen’s last eruption in 1915, we were initially disappointed. Since we were already there and it was a short walk, we decided to take a look anyways and found the artifacts of the eruption and the interpretive signs along the way very interesting and well done.

This short trail tells the story of the devastated area and how Lassen became a park. The trail is wheelchair friendly and you can go at your own pace. There are key spots along the trail that tell the story with placards audio.

it's a short paved interpretive trail that would be wise to start your lassen time with, if you come from the right direction. the trail is right across where the lava went through, and you can see the way that everything was burnt when the mountain erupted. there are also explanations and audio guide with very good presentation.

The Interpretive Trail is a easy walk with signs along the way explaining the effects of the volcanic eruptions. Interesting and well done. Lots of information provided and you can see up close the different kinds of rocks. Well worth the stop.

This is a ¼ loop path that educates you on the volcanic activity and history of the area. The ease and design of this feature makes it perfect for strollers and wheelchairs to access, and the markers are informative and quite interesting. Its not easy making rocks exciting, but the NPS rangers of this park pulled it off.
