We sampled some really excellent wines via tastings before settling in on our favorite red (Chambourcin). Several of us were beer drinkers, really enjoyed the brown ale. We ordered several types of flatbread pizzas were all delicious. We were lucky enough to be joined by the vintner, Max Hoffman, who gave us a tour after dinner.

Great pizza, appetizers and wine. They also brew their own beer and the root-beer was my husbands favorite. If you pre order they are know for their prime rib on Saturday nights, but we unfortunately were not there to try that out.

I just love this place. Everyone is so friendly, service is great, and food is amazing! I wish I could go there every weekend. I have several favorite wines and also love the Lemon Lime Lager. A must stop in Nebraska!

This lovely vineyard along the Nebraska-Kansas border in the southeast part of Big Red territory has been around for a number of years and also now brews a delightful assortment of beers that served to arouse the senses of this beer snob in a most positive way. There is a charge to sample the wines but we were pleased to find that sampling the six beers on tap was free! Saturday night they have a prime rib dinner that serves from 5 PM but be sure to make reservations. Pawnee City is home to Dan Whitney, more commonly known as Larry 'The Cable Guy' and the refreshing taste of Git Er Done ale is not to be missed. Hey, take home a six pack! This stop on the Southeast Nebraska Wine Tour is well-worth the trip a little off of the beaten path to Pawnee City. Be sure to make a stop at the city museum if it is open!

Schilling Bridge Winery and Microbrewery is one of our favorite places to spend a day. It is a winery. It is a microbrewery. And it is a restaurant. It even has its own home brewed root beer. They have expanded into margaritas and other mixed drinks. They have a wonderful tasting room and a beautiful party room. In good weather, we love sitting on the patio with a good wine and appetizer. The wine is very good and I have tasted their beer and it is as good as their wine. They serve meals in the evenings with sandwiches, burgers and pizzas. They only have a limited number of appetizers during the day. On Saturday nights, they have their special 14 oz prime rib dinner. You have to order it the day before, because Mike cooks it for 24 hours. It comes out looking rare and perfect of prime rib but it isn’t until you chew into it that you realize that it is so tender and full of flavor. As good as the wine, beer and food are at Schilling Bridge it is more about the “experience” that makes you want to spend some time there. You might come as a stranger but you leave feeling like part of the family which runs the place. Sharon is the perfect host and her only desire is for the customers to have a wonderful time at their winery. She spares no time in taking care of her customers. You really don’t want to leave. There is a fee to taste the wines but beer samples are free. They have wines that will suite any wine love’s palette. They do get crowded on the weekend so call and make reservations well in advance. They don’t open until Noon on most days. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
