Well maintained museum and gift shop. Friendly and staff. Located in a beautiful, tree filled park with playgrounds.

I was traveling along I-80 and saw signs for the Pony Express stop. The building resides in a small park and has been moved here from its original location south of town for preservation. It was built around 1860 and is constructed out of logs. It has a small museum inside with the obligatory gift shop. There was an original Pony Express saddle which was cool to see. This is a great side trip and is easily accessible from I-80. If you are looking for a place for a picnic the park has a play ground and some tables making it ideal for families traversing across western Nebraska.

We visited here on a trip from Omaha NE to Cheyenne WY. We needed a place to stop and stretch our legs. The small, free museum is rich with history and the person running the "station" was very knowledgeable. Recommended for anyone that like history.

Stopped here on our way west to break the monotony of the road. It was a good stop to make. This is one of only 4 stops still preserved and the only one which is advertised. The town itself has 2 but one is on private property. There are wall exhibit, a saddle used, a map of the stops and as usual a gift shop. Do not know if this was run by volunteers but whoever ran it was very nice and informative.

Found this out of way Pony Express Station in Gothenburg NE. A small museum inside shows the life of the Pony Express. One fascinating detail is the saddle on display used by the riders, unlike things seen in westerns!

We went a bit out of our way to see this, and were very glad we did. This was a real Pony Express Station that was moved a short way from its original location. When we went in July, it was surprisingly crowded - at one point there were about 20 people inside the small one-room building. This made it a bit difficult to walk around, but it was still a worthwhile experience. The exhibits were on one half of the room and were fun to see and very interesting. The gift shop was on the other end of the room and was average. The attendant could have been friendlier in greeting people - maybe there were a few too many people there for him. If you have postcards or letters to mail, you can mail them here and they'll get stamped with a Pony Express stamp.

This historic Pony Express Station is well-maintained and sits in a nice playground park. The highlight for us was walking across the street to the corner Gothenberg Historical Museum. It is free and the docents are extremely friendly, helpful, and patient. There were some don't touch items, but also "please touch" items the grandkids enjoyed. They were amazed at the typewriter! How does it work they wanted to know as they typed on it! There was an area like a small school house with books and desks. This museum is well-worth a stop.

We were going by, so nice to visit, not worth driving a distance for! The area is nice and clean, but very small. The building is well preserved, but a good picture would show you the same as visiting

If you are interested in the pony express this is nicely maintained, but there is not a lot to review.

This Pony Express Station is all about the original building and the grounds around it. It sits in a beautiful landscaped park, and the weathered building with all of its history is great.

This place is educational, fun and inspiring. The kids will like it, and there is plenty for any history buff to learn. The log house is authentic. There are good souvenirs and post cards. The park surrounding it is a great spot for a picnic, so bring along some lunch and make the stop double purpose!

We've passed by on the interstate & talked about stopping in the past. This year, we did it! Before heading to the campground, we drove the streets of Gothenburg looking for a piece of the past. The signs were easy to follow, but the road construction had to mess with us. This Pony Express station we found out was actually relocated from its original location on the Pony Express route. It kind of diminished the experience for me. It's located now in a lovely town park in a place of honor. There's no fee to get in. It's obviously well cared for. Inside a gift shop takes up one end & the museum the other. It's a small building, so we were glad it was only us & another family inside. The lady at the register was telling us a little about the Pony Express history. They have an original saddlebag used for the mail (or a representation - it looked real to me!). The register lady told us to go across the street & check out the county museum, but it was already closed when we got out. She told us also how to get to the sod house, but the signs for that one were missed. It's a nice place to stop if you're in the area.

The original Pony Express Station in Gothenburg, NE is a quick off the highway attraction worth the extra 20 min on your drive, is free and full of information! What a great look at the pass

We learned a lot about the pony express and its place in history when we stopped by this little museum. The volunteer on staff was very knowledgable and friendly, which is always a plus in a small place like this. The museum is free and not much time is needed to go through their small collection of historical pieces. The volunteer staffing it that day also had some other great suggestions for the area and made us feel very welcome. The historic building is very easy to find from the highway. There's also a county museum across the street, free and worth a look-around.

We stopped here after dinner while spending the night camping in Lafayette Park. $10 for tents - much better than the KOA. But I digress. The guides were knowledgeable and this was a nice little piece of history to visit while here. Can't beat free for the admission price, either!
