This a must see if in the area. 4th generation family owned business since 1914 with over 150,000 visitors a year. The Olde Mill and Wheel Room restaurant were very nice. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and the ice cream is to die for..... We enjoyed the Museum of Milling but didn't have time to take the tour. There is a video on their website to watch which is nice. If we are ever in the area we will stop again. Now I need to research where I can buy Velvet Ice Cream. We are hooked.

My great grandparents lived and are buried in Utica so we recently made the drive over to visit the cemetery and afterwards stopped by Ye Old Mill at the Velvet Ice Cream Co. for a late lunch and of course some ice cream. We were delighted. The mill, the little park, the homey decor, the food and above all the service were all outstanding. We all had sandwiches which were great...and the ice cream? ...let's just say there's a darn good reason that they've been making it for 100 years!

A really pretty setting, near Utica Ohio. The old mill is beautiful, the inside serves ice cream and light food. The interior of the mill also has a small museum on the history of ice cream. You can watch ice cream being made at the front of the mill during work hours. All in all a pretty neat place.

This was my first visit despite living within 45 minutes of the mill. Our ice cream was great and pretty reasonably priced - $4.00 for two scoops. I'm always on the lookout for good coconut ice cream and I found it! The grounds are a pretty place to eat with ponds and benches, tables, picnic tables, and shelter houses. They have a small playground and it looks like a small petting zoo but none of the animals were out when we were there. Surprisingly, they were open on a Sunday so it makes a nice place to visit on a Sunday. The tours are only available during the week though.

The Velvet Ice Cream company is 100 years old and located in a restored grist mill which is almost 200 years old. This popular Midwest ice cream has been made for a century by the same family. The site is a combination factory, ice cream parlor and eatery, and park. It is a really great place to bring your kids for an afternoon. There is a park with playground, petting zoo and picnic areas, and a nature trail. The ice cream parlor is located a restored mill and the factory is adjacent. There is a factory tour where you can get at least a partial view of the manufacturing process. This site turns out 5 million gallons of ice cream each year which makes it the largest ice cream "factory" in Ohio. The tour is free and the there is no admission. Naturally you pay for the food. There is also a Cinderella coach ride available for $5. This is a low key, low cost way to spend an afternoon which will appeal to all ages. Most of the activities are only open May through October. Check their web page for times.

We have gone several times, today was a pretty day for a drive so we took the 2 grandkids (6 and 8). We were disappointed no animals were in the small petting area but always enjoy seeing the geese and ducks which are running around. The grounds have a small pond, which you can fish in also. The grandkids enjoy the play area with wooden (backyard style) swingsets. We ate in the resturant today. We had 2 kid meals including drinks and build your own sundaes (crazy big for little kids). We would have split the kids sundaes if we had known how big it was. We also had a large blue cheese wedge salad, Italian sub with chips, 2 pepsi product drinks (no coke)and 2 adult ice creams for $49. Kind of expensive for the food we received but you are paying for the attraction as well and we get that. You can sample the ice cream before you order. The new raspberry cordial was very good, like Graters chocolate raspberry chip. The velvet ice cream tours only run Monday thru Friday, no weekend tours. Kind of bummed since we visited on Saturday but we will go again during the week. If this review helped you, click yes below.

The ice cream is the star and the variety is large. We have been coming a few times a year for at least 15 years and tried many flavors and never found one we did not like. We often split a very good Reuben sandwich which allows room for ice cream. The setting is peaceful and serene. There are ponds, a play ground area, a viewing gallery, a museum, an education building, a nature trail and a beautiful grove of buckeye trees. Ample seating indoors and out. Worth many repeated visits.

This past autumn we visited the Velvet Ice Cream Factory, and were delighted (as usual). I've been there several times before, and usually take friends or relatives for an afternoon getaway and lunch. They have a small (limited-menu) restaurant inside the main building, and I highly recommend the Reuben sandwiches. The tour and museum is top-knotch, and I can't say enough about the delicious ice cream. I usually go with the Butter Pecan and Cashew, but the Extreme Moose Tracks may soon hijack my preference. A nice playground for kids, and as a side note, you can go fishing in the ponds there, but catch-and-release only. A great place for a family getaway !!

out for a road trip and found it. Most fascinating is the underground railway exhibit. Wasn't impressed with the "factory"part but a fun little place to visit.

We went on a nice sunny day in June. There was 2 nice large ponds that had ducks and geese in them and we brought bread to feed them, but they were not interested. There were also some baby ducks that my daughter enjoyed chasing. The grounds are beautiful and we even brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed it in 1 or their 3 covered pavillions. We went through the "museum" (very small area of the gift shop) and gift shop. Things weren't really expensive. We went on the tour, which had an informative video, but the tour guide wasn't overly animated and rushed the last part where you got to look through windows at one portion of the factory. We had ice cream after we ate our lunch and they choice of flavors were huge (more than 40 flavors). The ice cream was good. Inside the restaurant, i got free wi-fi. It was pretty and we had a nice time. We drove about 60 minutes to get there. I would not drive more than that.

Nice tour of an Ice Cream factory and small business run by the same family for the last 99 years. Lovely setting in the country. The ice cream is freshly made, and 6M gallons is shipped from this location each year. Playground, Buckeye grove, easy access and picturesque setting make the very scenic drive worthwhile. Would return.

Factory tour was just okay. Late afternoon was kind of slow in the factory. Tour guide was good, however. But the ice cream was terrific! So many flavors to choose from and all were delicious!

We visited here for the annual ice cream festival. We had a really fun 2 hours or so, with live music, lots of vendors, food and an ice cream eating contest. I hadn't ever seen an ice cream eating contest before and frankly could probably do without ever seeing another one. It's fun watching them take it down....not so fun when it comes back up. In any case, this is a classic midwestern harvest type festival and is worth it if you're within an easy day trip.

Interesting spot to stop for a break. Wide variety of ice cream flavours, all made on the premises. Watch a short film on the family that owns/operates the factory, then wtatch through a glass wall as they make their different ice creams and novelties. Ice cream is delicious (I tried several different flavours), but a bit on the pricey side. Outside there is a mill pond with a variety of water fowl wandering around - great entertainment for the wee ones.
