We purchased two tickets for the winery / brewery tour from Groupon, whic proved excellent value for money.First of all the Chiltern Valley is in a beautiful location - do yourselves a favour and stay in Henley for a couple of days and grab a taxi to the winery. On our way up the hill to the winery we had to stop to allow an entire herd of wild deer to cross the single track road. What a lovely start to the evening.Jamie our tour guide was great. He gave an informative and light hearted tour of the facility, explaining how beer and wine is made - we've been on a few brewery tours and I think this is the first one where I can say I really understood what they were saying! After the 45 minute tour you are invited to a tasting session. 5 wines, 3 ales and 5 liquors. My partner was driving so I got double portions. These aren't just sips either, but a full wine glass each time. Other than a slightly, for me, disappointing red, the wine was great, the ales good, and they produce some lovely liquors.Definitely worth a visit.
A very informative tour of the winery, tour guide was fantastic and brilliant fun. The tasting was VERY enjoyable...An excellent experience to enjoy home made local products.
For my birthday my son bought me a visit for 2 to this excellent attraction. It is tucked away in the Chilterns but is well worth a visit. It was very informative and interesting. When we got to taste some of the end products it proved that relatively small enterprises like this in the UK can produce wines, beers and liquers that can compete with the best from around the world. And the proof is that it holds a Royal Warrant.
I saw this advertised on Wowcher and i'm so glad we brought a voucher! We had a brilliant tour and tasting. We got to walk around where they make and bottle both the wine and beer. Our guide was very knowledgeable and great to listen to, I wish I could remember his name. I just wish I didn't drive so I could have enjoyed all the amazing wine. My boyfriend really enjoyed all the wine lol Looking forward to going back :)
Today we experienced a Tour around this delightful winery - along with a tasting session. The tour was very informative, and the wines were delicious - We purchased some to take home. I now know how to tell if a wine is sweet or dry, based on appearance and had a very enjoyable trip out. I thought it was great value for money.
We booked this tour on a Groupon voucher, which made it very good value indeed, but would thoroughly recommend it even at full price. We had a very interesting tour, led by Pat, of both their own brewery and the winery, then down to a serious tasting of 4 wines, 3 beers, and several liqueurs topped off with an Irish cream - all delicious (but my personal favourites were the damson vodka and the blood orange liqueur). Also, as a non-beer drinker I really liked the beers! A great experience - and in such a beautiful location.
We've just done the 3 pm tour and it was very good. We've done tours before where you get a lot of sales pressure, or you only get to sample a couple of wines but not here. We tried a good measure of 4 Wines, 3 beers, 4 liqueurs and an Irish cream. We really do recommend getting a taxi! The wine is good quality too, all made at the winery with British grapes. Beer is also made on-site. Well worth a visit and great value.
We had a voucher as a gift so would not have chosen this as a bit of a trek for an hr tour but this wasn't because they made wine beer and liquor you got a 2 hr talk and tour by a great guide called pat and got to taste everything 4 wines 4 beers and 6 different liquors as well as cheese and pate well worth the trip
We have done a few wine & brewery tours in UK and across Europe, and Chiltern winery can 'Pat' itself on the back for a brilliant tour and tasting experience. We arrived at a bit of a rush after a satnav hiccup, but our guide Pat gave us time to sort ourselves out and did not make us feel our tardiness was annoying. Really interesting informative tour and Pat's explanation of grapes etc for English wines had the right level of entertainment and as they were making beer the day we took our tour the smell was very provocative. The tastings at the end were much enjoyed and as we purchased a selection of wines, beers, cheeses and the most amazing chocolate sauce will mean a return trip during the summer when with the blessing of appropriate weather we will see grapes on the vines! The Chiltern winery was a wonderful treat. Thank you to all the staff.
Thank you for such a positive comment. We are so glad that you enjoyed your second visit and hope we will see you again.
My girlfriend bought me a Wine tasting experience for 2 voucher as a present at Christmas. Not having been wine tasting before we picked this one because it had a brewery attached - we thought we'd have something extra.....and we were right. We were welcomed into the tour by Pat, who is a chap you instantly warm to and throughout the tour his knowledge and passion for his trade were apparent. The tour was interesting till the last and we wished we could have spent more time and learned more. When the time came to taste the products we were given generous samples of almost all of the products and at no time were we pushed to purchase any, however........the wines, ales and liqueurs were so delicious we walked away with two boxes full and smiles on our faces.I would absolutely recommend this tour as "one for the list" and the ales are so tasty it's no surprise they are the only micro-brewery in the world to have the Royal Warrant.
We are so glad you enjoyed your tour and tasting. We will pass your positive comments on to Steve.
We were given a voucher to visit for Christmas last year. We couldn't make any of the Saturday's last year so had to pay another £10 to use the voucher which was a little cheeky as they had already received the money. Our tour started at 11, which for us was a little early to start drinking but that was OK. The tour guide was funny and knowledgable. We tasted a few of their wines, one was reasonably tasty the others weren't to my liking but everyone's palate is different. We then had some ales which were quite good followed by some lovely liqueurs. As it's a bit off the beaten track so I'd either have a designated driver of you can walk to the local village about 20-25 minutes and have lunch at the pub to allow your alcohol levels to fall. There is a nice walk over the local fields to get there. If you are going to visit I'd recommend going in the summer to see the vineyard at its best.
It was much more than we expected. The tasting was an interesting experience. I had never been taught what to look for before. We loved the variety of the stock, and we are looking forward to going back again.
I am glad that as your first experience of wine tasting you chose Chiltern Valley and had such a positive experience.I hope we will see you again.
