I arranged a half day beach ride for my wife for a surprise birthday present. We had seen the feature on Country File a few years ago.We arrived at their new premises at 10am on Saturday 28th February and my wife hasn`t stopped smiling and talking about it since!!!The new premises are in an early stage of development, which was explained prior to our arrival, and it did not matter at all. There was a great reception from enthusiastic staff.Special thanks to Holly and Peter, their enthusiasm was infectious and plans are afoot for our next visit. All the best to the staff and although they have a lot of hard work sorting their new place it will all be worthwhile in the end!
Fantastic to days with the people and horses at Cumbrian Heavy Horses. Day one was a 2 hour tour of the farm and surrounding area, great staff and lovely horses. Day two was a half day trotting through the valley and cantering through the fields. I would recommend Cumbrian Heavy Horses to anyone who loves horses, just like my girl friend, or to a complete beginner like me. Trips and events for all abilities and something you will definitely want to come back and do again!
My grandson went for his first 90 minute farm ride with cumbrian heavy horses at the weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. Annie was very helpful arranging this and the young man who took him out was both friendly and professional, assessing his capabilities and allowing him to gain confidence and enjoy a canter on miracle a beautiful shire. I am sure my grandson will be back as often as my bank balance will allow!
I don't ride any more but love being around these big guys. Gentle giants and so well cared for. We first met them during their "Migration" from Skye to Cumbria. Annie and gang work so hard to keep them tip-top and everything right at the stables. I treasure the painted horseshoe I have from them. Big 'boots' and hearts.
The staff are friendly and experienced and know exactly what they are doing. The horses are clearly well cared for and despite being in the middle of move were still able to accommodate our needs? I booked a novice ride for my husband. They were wonderful. Great with him and me, teaching us both new skills and the scenery was amazing. I can't recomend this enough and can not wait to go back and do it again.
This stable is excellent at catering for mixed abilities. I have been riding and hacking for 10 years and my boyfriend had only sat on a horse once and yet the managed to take us both out together and provide a fantastic afternoon. We phoned the week before Christmas and despite the fact that they were moving premises and packing up, they were extremely welcoming and friendly and put on a ride just for us. One instructor walked with my boyfriend and another was with me to trot and canter. They did their best to make us feel safe at all times and allowed us to ride next to each other which some stables won't do even if you are experienced! I felt perfectly cared for at all times and the horses are just beautiful and so receptive - mine (Miracle) responded to voice with very little aids. I'm desperate to get back here on a hack for more experienced people to do some distance. Cannot recommend enough.
Annie and her crew gave me the experience of s lifetime 6 day riding holiday which included everything you would ever want. Beach ride mountains and much much more. Great horse Many who has now retired. Lovely people. I went on my own but was paired up with a very nice lady whom I shared with. Accommodation excellent as was the food. I'd be back tomorrow if I hadn't bought a Clyde x Warmblood foal just after booking the holiday. He is three and a half and Annie is moving she has posted that her new place may allow riders to bring there own horses x
What a brilliant day with the lovely Holly. Zac my horse was amazing. I'm a steady rider & he was perfect. I can't wait fort next gift voucher . This is my second visit and it never disappoints.
My mum, boyfriends step-mum and I did a half day fell ride at the end of October and thoroughly enjoyed it! We had previously spoken to the owner, Annie on the phone and she noted what we were capable off and gave us a rough guide as to what we were (Beginner/intermediate advanced) etc. Upon arrival, we then were greeted with our guide who would take us on the ride, who then made sure we were well suited to our horses. We are all in the intermediate range, so we were able to enjoy a 3 hour ride which included plenty of trotting and a couple of canters towards the end. They are very proper, putting your safety first which unfortunately meant no cameras on your person during the ride however there were plenty of stops and opportunities for photos and our guide Peter, made time for it which was really nice! We had two huge shires 17 and 18hh and one Suffolk Punch between us! (Who was particularly favourable since we are from Suffolk!)The horses are clearly well loved and very well looked after, their coats shiny and glossy - they're clearly very happy and healthy! It's lovely to see a riding place that takes such care for it's animals and customers. They also have a nice little shop and tea room which serves a variety of drinks and food for that post-ride hunger and thirst! We were staying in the Northern part of the Lake District but we were definitely willing to drive the 1hr30 distance to get there! We hope to return when we stay in the Lakes again but hopefully we'll be further south!
Me & a friend did a half day beach ride for my hen do.We are both competent riders having our own horses, but were still subject to a thorough questionnaire to ensure the horses selected were 110% suitable for us. The attention to detail of personal requirements was admirable, & Annie made us feel like part of the team, it was like we were 3 friends going out for the day. Can't stress how much we enjoyed the day, & will definitely come back again!
Great to see this breed of horse ( Scottish Clydesdales ) being looked after and cared for.A real working Horse farm , were you can see it all.
The first day I went out paired up with a lovely horse called BamBam for a half day fell ride. The terrain was demanding but the horses proved their fitness and willingness to reach the hop of the fell. The views from the top are amazing. We were able to see Blackpool tower. The horses were equally as careful making their way back down. Holly the ride leader was so friendly and always made sure we were all happy and comfortable with our horses. The second day I went out on zac a stunning black shire for a half day beach ride. This is an awesome experience. Riding through the waves and galloping along a deserted sandy beach in the autumn sunshine on a more than willing horse who thoroughly enjoyed his ride too. Peter was the ride leader who has great life experience, was friendly and encouraged us to get the best from our horses. All of the staff hold the highest standards of care for these magnificent horses. The yard is well run, the horses fit, happy and healthy and the staff excellent at assessing your abilities and matching you to the right horse. I couldn't recommend CHH more highly.
i really got the best day to ride here on 2nd October - left the waterproofs in the car! I rode Jake, he was amazing. we did the fell ride and made it right over the top to enjoy amazing views. Toby was my guide and was really nice to ride with. Because the fell ride goes up a mountain and down the other side you do walk pretty much all the way - it was a great ride and a fab experience - but i would say if you want lots of canters book a beach ride. the yard is run in a professional safe way and the horses all look happy and fit. i would love to visit again and will certainly do so if i am in the Lake District again.
Rode out for 2hours yesterday 05/10/2014, ride led by Holly who was super friendly. I rode Jake who was a complete sweetheart, really enjoyed his work. My other half hasn't been on a horse for 30years & he was very suitably paired with Dingle who was perfect for him. Holly made sure as a more experienced rider I could do some galloping around whilst she kept my other half company at a steadier pace. Would recommend to everyone. We also stayed in the on sight Yurt which was lovely & very nice to open the front door in a morning to a field full of lovely horses.
And I have ridden all sorts of horses on all sorts of terrain all over the country but these guys do it as well as anywhere I have ever been. They'll quiz you hard about your ability and check that you are as good - or as bad as you say you are, but tell the truth they'll match you to a horse which will be BIG and you will have a great time. Just Go !!
