This is a very old mosque in the barrel vault style. There is extensive renovation being done to the surrounding buildings, but the mosque and burial can still be viewed.

The oldest mosque in present-day Turkey, this small but ancient building complex is the embodiment of history. A true religious experience for all, even for those of secular thinking. Located on a busy and narrow junction, each step around the mosque seems to resound with the memories of millennia. I can't wait to go back to this mystical and bustling city to savor every meter of it.

This mosque is small but looks nice. According some sources that is the oldest mosque in Anatolia, but the building has been builded during Otoman era. A foundain near the mosqe is an earlier, from 19th century. You can visit it free of charge. There are christian tomb under the mosque like the symbol of solidarity in inter-religion. According the information for tourists , the first mosque at that place have been builded in 638. The mosque is in good condition now because Turkish goverment have restored the building in 2006.

This mosque is no different than any other mosques in terms of architecture, however, it's the living spritual symbol of Antakya and its region where different religions live in full harmony unlike many other parts of the world: first of all, it is the first mosque built on Anatolian soil back in 636. Of course, the building has been demolished many times in the past due to earthquakes and the current building we see is dating back to 19th century only. It's built on top of a pagan temple. The most interesting part is that, the mosque is dedicated to Habib-i Neccar who is among the first inhabitants of Antakya to believe in Jesus and who was martyred for this reason. His tomb is inside along with the tombs claimed to belong to Yuhanna and Pavlos. So, Muslims are coming to this mosque and praying in front of the tombs of first Christians. I believe people who fight over religion should be forced to come here and witness this incredible solidarity and unity. The mosque worths a visit even only for this spritial uniqueness.

Camii kompleksi içinde Habib-i Neccar'ın ve Hz.

Neccar marangoz demektir. Lütfen hikayesini araştırarak öğreniniz. Kur'an-ı Kerim'de Yasin Suresinde Habib-i Neccar, Yunus (Yuhanna) ve Yahya (Pavlus) geçmektedir.
