There isn't much here other than a hotel with its attendant facilities. It's pretty and it has a small isle connected by a small causeway where you can walk and look out to sea, birds etc.. The pebbly beach is small and popular but you can swim here. The water is clear and shallow which is great for small kids and there is a bouncy castle/water activity which is fun for a fiver or something. The ferry costs similar for the return journey to Rovinj. You could take a picnic and spend the day? The ferry runs from the front of the park hotel in front of the tourist office every half hour on the blue & white Maistra boat. You buy your ticket on the other side at a small kiosk by the boat jetty. The island is also known as St Andrea not to get confused with St Katarina next door.

We visited this island every day while staying in Rovinj. Beach is well taken care off workers are polite selection of drinks and food offered at the beach is decent. If ever coming back to Rovinj this would be the place I would visit again.

My husband and I actually stayed on the Island at the Hotel Istra and I can honestly stay it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The islands are linked by a small causeway and both have lovely walks around and through them. We stayed there for 2 weeks and I don't think we covered the same path twice. It's lovely on St Andrew's island to just sit and watch the small boats toing and froing and we even saw a pod of about 8 dolphins one day. There is a lovely pizza restaurant near the hotel, and they are delicious and quite reasonable. There is a very nice children's play area and a small shingle beach, although when we were there in May, the sea was very cold and there were also a few jelly fish, which the wind had blown in. All around both islands, there are fitness stations, where you can do exercises if you feel so inclined, but we were content just to amble around and observe nature and the wonderful wildlife and enjoy the utter tranquillity of the place, especially at the mausoleum on Maskin island. When we were there, not so many people were staying in the hotel, so it was easy to find a peaceful spot with no-one else around.

We loved our visit here. It is so beautiful. Our children enjoyed the play park (larger than the small one in the old town in Rovinj) and beach areas (watching huge pinecones bobbing around in the waves), and lizard spotting. The tower you can go up to get a view was a hit too. There were lots of little surprises and interesting things dotted around. The boat ride was fun and lasted half an hour (long enough but not too long for us). One of my favourite holiday moments was lying on the big net swing with my daughter listening to the waves. Gorgeous.

The beach itself is quite small but the sea is calm and cleat. If you want to spend some relaxing days on the beach and nature come here.

Nice beaches with good access to the water and comfortable chairs for rent an a daily basis. The Pizza restaurant at the Hotel offers excellent pizza as well as other entrees, including broiled or fried fish, which we saw others eat, but we didn't have it because we liked the pizza so much. The service was excellent as well. Take the ferry and go to this island.

We got the "Glass Boot" ( boat with glass panels to see not very exciting fish ) from Marsal Tito square, went round the islands and were dropped on St Andrea island, which together with Maskin island, linked by a causeway, forms Red island. There's a small tower to climb for views, an expensive restaurant. And a lovely walk round the island. Swimming is off rocks. We walked on to Maskin, which is quieter, there's a pretty, recently built temple, a cafe. Be warned, the rocks have tiny barnacles and I regretted leaving my jelly shoes behind, as I got quite a deep cut on one foot and scraped the other quite badly! But it was lovely and peaceful. The "glass boot" picked us up 3 hours later, but we had a choice of times, so it was more flexible than other trips. Cost 100 kuna, 75 if you just did the hour and a quarter round trip without stopping off.
