Despite there having been no new snow and very challenging weather for some time, the skiing experience at TLH was outstanding. The guides did a great job in finding good snow, balancing fun terrain with safety. The high alpine experience in TLH's tenure is truly spectacular. Having a single group per helicopter also creates a very relaxed experience, highly recommended. The lodge experience as well is very nice. The entire lodge was refurbished recently and it was well done. Rooms are great, food and service also are fantastic, solid wine selection... We're already planning our trip back next winter! Well done! Th
This was a first time heli experience for 8 of our group of 10 and into the double digits experience for 2 of our group. Thought it was going to be once in a life time but now we are hooked! We have already signed up for next year! We had challenging weather conditions but our guides and pilot made the extra effort to get us a few rays of sun, a boatload of fresh snow and the extra vertical despite fast moving cloud cover. For us newbies, the guides pushed us to expand our comfort zone and were a perfect yin-yang pair-One the voice of unbridled enthusiasm and the other the voice patience and wisdom in extracting us from the occasional tumble or helping us choose a line that would stretch us or keep us safe (had lots of choice) There was always a steeper option for the more experienced or adventurous. Our pilot was a deft flyer with a great sense of humour. The experienced Heliskiers in our group said it was the best experience they'd had; best most fun guides, great vertical, fabulous food at Tyax. They also commented about some grace notes like how gently Sean set us down and how little spray on take off. Trip of a Life time! thanks TLH!
I just completed my 4th trip to TLH and as usual they exceeded my expectations. I have been to numerous heli-ski operations and would recommend TLH above any others. The guides found the best snow and terrain to ski and the lodge staff catered to evey need. If you want to enjoy a safe, exciting, comfortable heli-skiing vacaton this is the place to go. They make you feel like family. Chuck Hafner
This review is my actual email to the owners of TLH after our trip from 2013. It is long, but accurately depicts our entire experience with the company and the staff, in particular the Sales Manager, Shanna Selinger. Yes, it is long, but if you want truthful knowledge about TLH, please read this. To answer your next question- yes, we have already booked with TLH for 2015. I wanted to express my deepest thanks for one of your staff members; Shanna Selinger. Her dedication, professionalism and going above and beyond for our group was the single reason that we selected TLH for our first, of many, heli trips. About a year ago, I started researching a heli trip for my best friend's 40th birthday. We have an annual tradition of kicking off each ski season by attending Warren Miller's latest ski movie. Every year, a special segment or sponsor is a heli company. For the last 10+ years we have said, "next year, that's us". Well, of course life tends to get in the way, we both have two kids, and nothing ever materialized. However, this year was different as he was turning 40 and I was turning 45. Darn it, we're going. I am a bit of an OCD research freak and Googled all the heliskiing outfits in BC and TLH was one of the 15 that I started calling. Several were receptive, some answered my calls and a few even called me back within the same week. Most blew me off as this was just another guy calling and looking for info, without any real intention of moving forward. Shanna, however, answered with a smile on her face and became my "Director of Answers". I had so many question about what to do, how to do it, what equipment you had, conditions, vertical feet, spa, amenities, blah, blah, blah. She was a rock, never let me down and answered every one of my emails, and there ended up being about 100, my phone calls and smiled through her clenched teeth for seven more months. In addition to the heliskiing, I wanted a "one stop shop" that could handle all my needs. From hotels, ski rentals, lift tickets, transportation and local knowledge. She said, " I can do it". I had no idea whether this was your SOP, but she made it seem so. When it came time for me to book, there never was any question of whom we were going to book with; TLH, was the only answer. She was the only answer and the reason that we did. So, after many months of back and forth, we booked. We arrived to a great driver with a sign and smile, ready to take seven, loud, we had a few beverages on the plane, guys to the hotel in Whistler. He was friendly and very professional. At the hotel, there was a problem with one of the rooms- it was not there. "Who you gonna call" (Ghostbusters theme) Shanna. Within 10 minutes, she called us back and we were taken care of. The hotel was clean, had a great bar (Ric's) and our lift tickets for us the next day. Score! We took the T-Bar and hiked the glacier in 6" of fresh all day and loved every minute of it. Shanna gave us some suggestions and we thoroughly enjoyed the bars, err, I mean, our stay. Then the snow kept falling and falling...no flight to TLH. We had to take a bus ride with 12 others for the next 5 hours. Oh, joy rapture. When we arrived at the lodge, Shanna and the staff were there to meet and greet us. It felt like a sort of homecoming after the many months and numerous emails. Little did we know that due to the storm the people slated to ski that day never were able to go out. Big bummer for them, and we felt pretty bad. Our 'bad fortune' of having to take the bus ride created the window for a fantastic, make that epic, three day heliskiing trip. At this point, I need to digress and say something about the staff. Wow- everyone from the bartender, Danielle, to self-proclaimed, "Director of Fun", Katie, and the incredible massage therapists, Ingrid and Dena, was so very cheerful, smiling, laughing, outgoing and fun to be around. I have many trips where guests and staff are not encouraged to interact. Well, those places need to stay at your lodge and see how a great group of staff members and the guests can create a fun, social and friendly environment. Without their involvement our trip would never have been anywhere near as much fun. Last point, then I'll let you get back to actually working. Your guides were studs! We had Matt and Trevor and Mark as the pilot. They made us feel like we were in the TGR movies. We were well prepared by them for all avalanche conditions, they took safety and all preparations very seriously and we skied 94k vert in 3 days, where it snowed two of the three days. Not bad at all for a bunch of old guys. Their attention to the group, keeping us together and yet, letting us go, was the perfect balance of giving us enough rope to hang ourselves and the gentle nod from a parent when we strayed too far. The food for lunch was excellent as well as the 'espresso maker'...LOL. Skiing is great and that is why we came, but your people, Shanna in particular (don't let her go or we may follow her, hint, hint), spa, amenities, most excellent food and stellar guides will be the reason that we come back. There is snow everywhere and there are other heliskiing outfits, but there is not another TLH anywhere. I wanted to express my sincerest thanks for making this a most special trip, that far exceeded our expectations. So, thank you for your very well run company, your staff, the amenities AND a big THANK YOU to Shanna; without her, the trip would never have happened.
Five stars is not enough. I called every heli operator in BC and I am convinced that I picked the best. Shanna put together a package that fit seamlessly with my limited dates. Out transfer from Whistler to the lodge was on time, friendly and comfortable. The reception at the lodge was warm and efficient. Dropped our bags at the door and they were taken to our room while we got set up with our skis, which were waiting for us on the helicopter the next morning. Ok time for dinner. I am someone that knows and loves great food, what a surprise, the food was fine dining off the charts! I would go just for the food, well maybe not. The guides were fantastic. Most important they took safety very seriously and kept us safe. Avalanches were something I was kinda freaked out about but after meeting the guides and seeing the their dedication to safety I hardly thought about it the rest of the week. They made sure that we skied the best snow all week. One of the best parts of TLH is the unlimited vertical and ONE group per helicopter. On every run there is a traverse or runout to the heli and with operators that give you a guarantee this is being counted. I figured out that if I would have skied the same amount at CMH I would have had $3800 bill at the end of the trip. Plus we never waited for the helicopter. As we finished the run there sat our helicopter with the pilot ready to help with our skis. One of the guest that we met, and now a friend, has skied with TLH for 18years straight, they must be doing something right. Don't' gamble on any other company. Thank you TLH for making my dream of heli-skiing a wonderful life long memory!
Dear Mr. SavchenkoThank you for your feedback. Delivering a professional, safe and memorable experience to our guests is one of our key objectives. The guest experience is always done in conjunction with the safety of all our guests. We understand at times our guests may find the safety first approach confronting or out of line with the guest expectation. Our Guides continuously strive to balance safety with an amazing experience, but unfortunately at times the goal of safety and guest experience are not mutually inclusive. The guides make the safety of all of our guests their highest priority at all times. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate all feedback, both good and bad.Gavin EnnsOperations ManagerTLH Heliskiing
Last week of January I was in the Tyax Lodge for heliskiing, the first time for such an adventure. We had 2 wonderful days of skiing in glorious weather. The guides were very competent and you feel instantly at ease. Well, the snow conditions were not as expected but the guides have still made the best of it, they are not responsible for the bad winter with little snow. The third day was foggy and impossible to fly for the Helicopters. But anyway it was a beautiful and unforgettable experience.
Heliskiing is like going to the Super Bowl for a skier so you want verything to be perfect. At TLH they try to accomodate you. They have excellent guides and helicopters/pilots. One chopper for each group of 10 skiers. Since weather plays such a big part of the scene they do have a minimum amount of vertical guaranteed . It is a bit grueling each day with the number of runs each day. You must remove your skiis and avalanchebac k pack each time and reassemble on top. The runs are not super-long so you do alot of getting in and out of the chopper. I felt reasonably safe since the helicopter is always there in case of a rescue. We didn't ski any double black diamond but did ski almost all virgin powder runs. Occaisionally wasn't enough room for fresh tracks on each pitch so some sharing was required. Ended paying about $8000US plus airfare for 80000 ft vertical in 3.5 days. Includes tips/meals/tranfers by air to WHistler.
Es el segundo año consecutivo que vivo esta experiencia, espero que sean muchas más !!Gracias a todos por la excelente hospitalidad.Saludos,
