Unparalled view of the surrounding lakes and forest. A bit of a climb to get to the top, but easy enough for most people.
We have busloads and car loads of tourist here in Sept. to check out the beautiful colors in the village of Dorset and around Lake of Bays, you can walk up to the Tower or drive. There is a kiosk to purchase souvenirs, such as T-shirts that say I climbed the Dorset Tower, also sweat-shirts with the Dorset Tower logo and lots of stuffed animals that have their homes up-north. It is only a few dollars to go up to the Tower and you could bring a lunch and enjoy your visit to Dorset.
The view from the tower is unparalleled by anything in the area. The tower is an easy climb for most and the view from the top is certainly worth every step!
It was such a beautiful day, the climbing was scary but fun, when you get to the top it was so beautiful, the colours of the trees, the gorgeous lake, the cliffs are amazing, everyone one who is in the are its a must to see.We will be going back very soon. There were lots of people and you can see all were enjoying the beauty. Please wear comfortable shoes.
Perfect if you want a day of fresh air, and beautiful views. Worth going to more than once, gorgeous as the leaves change colour.
We were so crazy to climb the tower with our toddler. It was exhausting and not really relaxing, but the panoramic view is great...only trees and lakes around you. Very beautiful. Will go back with a grown kid for sure!
This is a great little free stop where you can easily walk up to some great long-range views. I don't think it's wheelchair accessible, but just a few stairs down and you're at the edge of a fenced cliff over-looking the little town of Dorset and expansive forests beyond! Then, if you're brave and fit enough to climb the fire tower, the views are magnificent! There is a little souvenir shop there also. So glad we didn't miss this!
the tower is easily climbed and well worth the effort. Once on top one can take in the beauty of the Fall colours in all directions.
We always buy a seasons pass ( now $20 I believe) as we make it a habit to climb the tower every year - at least twice. Great views offered from the ground level look-out if you don't feel up to the challenge of making the climb. NOTE, the climb is very steep and you must have good shoes - hold on to the handrails! Coming down is actually more difficult than going up as steps are very narrow and steep! Not for the faint of heart! Wind at the top can cause the tower to sway. There are a couple of hiking trails that start/end at the tower.
Amazing amazing view this time of year with the colours changing on the trees!! Well worth the climb. Bus loads of Asian tourists a little much but.... Once you elbow them out of the way to get a good shot you'll have awesome facebook profile pics lol
This older retired fire tower has been restored into a viewing platform with 3 levels where tourists can climb up and see for miles around. This would be a particularly gorgeous venue in the fall to see the leaves
Awesome view of Dorset and the Lake. We hiked it after a great lunch at the Trading Bay Dining Company. Worked off the pulled pork!!
Great lookout! Pay $6 to get at the top of the hill. Make sure to check out the peek a boo rock that's just down from the tower and don't wear flip flops!
There is a nominal fee to see the tower (waived for residents etc), which is fine. Someone needs to pay maintenance fees :)Other than that, it's a good scenic climb up the stairs. The stairs are a bit narrow and steep if you have young children with you (as they can fall from the backs...there are no backs to the stairs). Our 4 year old climbed all the way up (holding our hand, of course), but we held the 2 year old all the way to the top. There is a platform about 2/3rds of the way if you need to take a break/walk around for more pictures. It's very windy on the top by the way, but also very scenic. Good time for some pictures. Cell reception at the top of the tower is also good :)
Very nice spot with great views but the $6 entrance fee was a bit off putting. Didn't go up the fire tower.
